Elden Ring received outstanding reviews from critics. A few hours after release, the image looks a bit different for users. Here, the mood is rather divided. MeinMMO tells you more.
97 % – That’s the impressive score that Elden Ring has achieved on Metacritic. Even after release, this number still applies to the PS5 version of the game. On PC, the game has an impressive 95 % there (via Metacritic).
Thus, the FromSoftware game belongs to one of the highest-rated games of all time. What players think about it will be revealed on Metacritic only from Saturday. Because that’s when the user reviews will be unlocked.
On Steam, these reviews are now open, and players themselves see things a bit differently shortly after release than the critics. On the store page of Elden Ring, the ratings are only balanced a few hours after release. Of about 15,000 votes, only about 60 % are positive (via Steam). What happened?
Update, February 25 at 14:00: Meanwhile, there is a statement from developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco, where they address current issues and reveal what you can do right now.
PC and PS5 version of Elden Ring has performance issues
If you take a closer look at the reviews on Steam, it becomes clear what makes players so dissatisfied: the performance of the PC version.
These problems were known even before the release. On the website Eurogamer, performance experts took a closer look at Elden Ring, and found: Even after the Day-1 patch, there are performance issues on both PC and console.
However, the PC version has been hit particularly hard. And players on Steam are also complaining about this.
- TrevMizer writes after about 9 hours of play: ‘Loads of stutters and frame drops. And why isn’t there an unlocked framerate in 2022?’
- Hesgad says Elden Ring is the ‘worst port I’ve seen in a while’
- ChaoZz writes: ‘My God, it’s just frustrating. Isn’t it too much to ask to be able to play a game at release? The game has such severe technical issues that it won’t even start.’
Besides the frame-rate drops and startup issues, players are also upset about poor keyboard & mouse controls as well as the lack of ultrawide support.
It also seems that the performance may have deteriorated rather than improved after the Day-1 patch. At least that’s what people like reviewer SkillUp say on Twitter.
No complaints about the gameplay of Elden Ring
What is also noticeable: Apparently hardly any player has serious problems with the gameplay itself. Even though many positive reviews also address the performance issues, they are excited about Elden Ring as a game.
Among the nearly 60 % of positive votes, there are about the following statements:
- Grizzly47 says: ‘The game lives up to the hype.’
- H4wKShot says: ‘Imagine a game living up to the astronomical hype and even exceeding it. That’s this.’
- Hello Bipo writes very enthusiastically: ‘YOU CAN JUMP NOW’
How about you? Have you played the game yet? If so, have you had performance issues too? Or are you mainly having fun? Let us know in the comments.
