The release of Elden Ring was enthusiastic, but it was not without problems. Now, developer FromSoftware has addressed the biggest issues and reveals what affected players can do until the patch.
What’s going on? As of today, February 25th, Elden Ring is finally playable. In addition to the extremely positive reviews and a score of 97 on Metacritic, there is currently criticism of the performance on PC and consoles on Steam.
- For despite the day-one patch, Elden Ring is running anything but smoothly for many. We’ve already noticed this while playing.
- PC has been hit particularly hard with performance drops, while the PS5 is struggling with a serious memory bug.
- The Xbox Series, on the other hand, seems to have been spared from severe problems.
Now, developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco have addressed the issues and published a statement on the publisher’s website.
In it, they outline the major problems they are working on and what players can do while waiting for the next update.
Developer apologizes for issues and gives recommendations
This is what FromSoftware says: In the statement, the developers first apologize for the technical difficulties.
- These mainly affect the PC. The game struggles with stuttering and drops in frame rate. Additionally, mouse controls are reportedly faulty for some players.
- However, the PS5 is also battling with a bug that affects the save system. There have been instances where the PS5 console shut down unexpectedly while playing. It is unclear how many are affected.
They are working diligently on a new patch that should address the most serious issues. In the process, FromSoftware also provides suggestions for solutions:
- Regarding performance issues on PC: The developers recommend installing the latest driver for your graphics cards. This has helped in some cases.
- Regarding memory issues on PS5: Until the next patch, you should definitely ensure that you exit your game properly using the in-game options. This should allow the data to be saved correctly.
A patch is in progress for all these issues, which should arrive as soon as possible. It should also bring other bug fixes and performance improvements.
When will the patch come? Unfortunately, a date has not yet been specified.
This is not the first launch of FromSoftware that has suffered from performance issues at the start. However, players are also bothered by other things.
For instance, the PC version has a limit for FPS set at 60. There is also no support for ultrawide monitors, and other small things that one is used to from other games are not present in Elden Ring.
Similar criticism has existed since Dark Souls 1 from 2011. The PC port at that time was released after requests from fans and was in a terrible state, without even supporting mouse and keyboard.
