Elden Ring has had a problem in PvP since release. So-called AFK farmers are raking in tons of runes without doing anything for it. This wastes the time of other players and annoys the entire community. Now a player has gone on a successful revenge mission – without lifting a finger.
In Elden Ring players have been destroying the PvP for some time now, the so-called AFK farmers are using a nasty trick:
- They go to a place with their horse that cannot be reached on foot
- Then they constantly lure in new PvP intruders.
- Since they cannot summon a horse, they are stuck and cannot attack the opponent.
- These players are now ‘trapped’ in the farmer’s world. To continue playing, they must either give up or lose to the farmer’s helpers.
The AFK farmers are rewarded with runes for these retreats. Therefore, they purposefully position themselves in remote corners of the map and receive hefty rewards for twiddling their thumbs and doing nothing. They take the fact that the fun of others is ruined into account.
The reddit user Teasnarker had enough of this. Furious, he wanted to mess up the AFK farmers’ plans. For this, he devised a sneaky plan: He became a bush himself.
In the video, we explain how multiplayer in Elden Ring actually works:
“I hid in a bush for 3 hours”
What upset the player so much? Teasnarker explains his situation like this: “I ambushed an AFK farmer in Liurnia – no joke – five times in a row. He is on top of a cliff, where you simply cannot reach him. After 4 pointless invasions, I had enough.”
The concept of fairness in the multiplayer of Elden Ring is a controversial one, as we discussed in this article:
Play honorably in the PvP of Elden Ring – then I can kill you better
His plan was to fight fire with fire. He wanted, “that this host does not get a single rune from me anymore.”
What did the player do? During his 5th invasion, Teasnarker ran away, sat in a bush, and used the Mimic’s Veil. With this item, the player transforms into an object in the environment – and was able to perfectly camouflage himself in the bush. Some see parallels to NPC Boc.
Because the AFK farmer’s helpers could not find him this way and the player did not want to give up, the farmer did not receive a single rune: “I AFK-farm the AFK farmer.”
For 3 patient hours, Teasnarker sat in the bush, turning an invasion into a very special revenge mission. The PvP in Elden Ring was, at least in this match, a battle of two players who most likely didn’t even have their hands on the controller.
Teasnarker may not be able to do anything himself, but he takes it with humor and satisfaction. He recommends the community to imitate this tactic:
I like it in here. There are rocks and leaves and sometimes a beetle flies by to keep me company. If you ambush an AFK farmer and have some time, I recommend doing it too. But you have to take a different bush. This one is mine. […]
The bush is now my home. I can’t get out. You can’t force me to do that.
