Not all secrets of Elden Ring have been uncovered for a long time. But new ones keep coming to light. A modder has now discovered a dungeon in the DLC that is missing from the finished game.
Which dungeon is it? Even in the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, there are numerous larger and smaller dungeons again. Besides the imposing legacy dungeons, where bosses like Rellana or Messmer await at the end, there are also smaller ones.
These include catacombs or the new forges, of which there are three in the DLC. The first one that players will encounter on their journey of discovery is probably the “lavazulauf der ruinierten Schmiede” (lava flow of the ruined forge).
These dungeons are designed quite clearly and contain not only some enemies but also valuable rewards in the form of forging materials. Even the highest level stones can be found there. By the way, you can find a guide on forging in Elden Ring on MeinMMO.
As a modder and a YouTuber now show, FromSoftware has designed and implemented at least one more of these forge dungeons for the DLC.
The dungeon did not make it into the game
How was the dungeon found? The modder Grimrukh examined the game files of Elden Ring and found clues about the unused dungeon. This piqued the curiosity of YouTuber SekiroDubi, who loaded the level to take a closer look.
In a video on YouTube, you can see him traversing the entire dungeon. Level structures and enemies are present and remind of the other forges in the DLC. Only items are missing – even the valuable forging stones at the end of the dungeon.
Overall, however, it feels more linear than its relatives. There are hardly any branches, and the path leads almost directly to the goal. There are some jumping passages where the player must jump over broken columns and rubble, but all in all, the dungeon seems rather unremarkable.
Why is the dungeon not in the game? YouTuber SekiroDubi explains in his video that he does not know where on the map the dungeon should have been located. It is smaller and simpler than the rest, and has less to offer. This is probably the reason why FromSoftware cut it.
In a long development process like that of Elden Ring and also the DLC, it is not unusual for content to be cut. But it is rare for them to come to light through crafty modders.
