EA Sports promises that the career mode is one that continues to grow. Major changes are expected in future years – so only after FIFA 20.
This is why the career is a permanent topic among FIFA players: In the career mode of the annual FIFA series, football fans can live their dreams as the manager of a successful club. You choose a club, buy and sell players, build a team and lead the club to victories and titles.
In recent years, the career mode has not been able to satisfy the managerial fantasies of FIFA fans adequately – because there is a lack of major innovations. The career is stagnating and gradually gathering dust.
Criticism can often be found in the forums, claiming that the developers have neglected the career and are putting their resources solely into the Ultimate Team mode since it generates massive revenue thanks to microtransactions. The career continues to suffer.
With FIFA 20, the career will receive some updates, but there are no revolutionary changes this year either. However, that should change in the future, reveals Alex Constantinescu, a Senior Game Designer at EA, in an interview with vg247.

Career will continue to grow, this is not the end
This is what EA says about the future of the career: According to Constantinescu, the innovations coming with FIFA 20 are already “very, very exciting for him”. Last year, they were very busy integrating the Champions League as authentically as possible, which is why they simply had no time to create the new features they had already envisioned.
In the meantime, they have developed their own internal toolset that allows designers and producers to create content for the career more efficiently.
Now they have the capacity to create more and more, using valuable resources to get much more done in future years. The career is a mode that will continue to grow, and they will not stop here.

EA promises major changes
Constantinescu admits that the career has become “somewhat stale” after all these years. He says this is probably because the developers have not paid much attention to it.
Especially in Europe, the mode is very popular. If you watch football and know about football, you can enjoy the career at your own pace without the competitive pressure like in Ultimate Team.
Regarding all the criticism, Constantinescu adds that the career community has been very vocal. They now have to look closely at what people actually want and deliver it. They have a pretty large team taking care of the career – similar to Volta or FUT.
He reveals that there is much more to come in the future. He admits that he feels somewhat strange in that he thinks about what could come next when he briefly wants to switch off from the features they are currently working on.
And for the future, they are already considering big changes.

What does this mean? The statements sound as if EA Sports wants to slowly revamp the career mode and enable fans to experience new and fun careers again. However, since no major changes have been revealed yet, it remains to be seen whether it is just empty promises.
But in the end, it remains: Career fans can hope for the future that FUT will not swallow all other FIFA modes.
