The Grounds is a major innovation in EA FC 27. What does the mode bring? Now there are new details.
What is The Grounds? The Grounds is basically a large playground where you can move around with your own avatar. Think of modes like the “Neighborhood” from NBA2K or “The Island” from WWE2K.
At the center of this playground is the “Terrace,” and connected to it is the “Clubhouse.” Around the Terrace, you will find three districts:
- Parkside, inspired by the United Kingdom
- Zeiza, inspired by Argentina
- And Monclair, inspired by France
In these three districts and at the Clubhouse, you will find plenty of football modes that you can play alone or together. You will be guided by four “mentors”: Kylian Mbappé, Paulo Dybala, Chloe Kennedy, and, as a returnee, Alex Hunter. You may remember him as the protagonist of the “Journey” mode, which existed for a while in the FIFA games.
As you progress, you’ll earn upgrades and cosmetics that you can use to outfit either your player or the Clubhouse.
All modes in The Grounds, explained briefly
So what exactly do you play in The Grounds?
As already mentioned, there are modes for single players, as well as small and larger groups of players. These modes range from competitive to casual.
- On the competitive side, you will find the Club League. It is managed from the Clubhouse and is designed for playing 11 vs. 11 in large stadiums. Of course, you need a club first, which you can create with other players or join.
- Additionally, there are 11-vs-11 matches outside of the league, as well as the Rush Stadium. You also know Rush from earlier game installments; it’s basically indoor football. Here you play against other players of your skill level and can recruit new people for your Club.
- Small-sided football is also part of The Grounds. Here everything is possible, from 1-vs-1 to 4-vs-4.
- Another mode: the “Kickabouts”. These are mini-games like “Goal Control,” where you want to control several goals, Bucket Ball as a basketball-football hybrid, a dribbling race, and a balloon hunt.
- Finally, there are the so-called Dropkick Targets. You shoot balls at targets in the world of The Grounds.
In these modes, you can earn progress and rewards for your avatar. This will make your player better and cooler. There are plenty of clothing items, Club stadium cosmetics, and celebration gestures. Additionally, there are various shops in The Grounds where you can buy more items.
Furthermore, the Grounds are supposed to change regularly through live events, which are linked to seasons, football events, and similar. You can find more details in the Pitch Notes from EA Sports (via ea.com).
Also, aside from The Grounds, there are quite a few new features in EA Sports FC 27. These also affect the career mode, which receives some interesting updates this year.
