In EA FC 25, you establish your play style with the formation, team tactics, and player roles before a match. However, you can change 2 settings directly during the game to adjust your tactics in seconds. At MeinMMO, we present the tactical settings and their advantages.
Which settings are somewhat hidden? These are the shortcuts that you can only activate during the game using the arrow keys on your controller. The shortcuts are divided into the following categories:
- Right arrow: Tactical focus (Standard, Offensive, and Defensive)
- Down arrow: Suggested tactics (available only after some game time)
- Left arrow: My tactics (switching between preset formations is possible)
- Up arrow: Quick tactics (settings mainly to strengthen your offense)
In the following, we will take a closer look at the categories “Tactical Focus” and “Quick Tactics” since these exclusive settings include tactical instructions that you can only change during the game.

2 Shortcuts enhance your tactics in offense/defense
Tactical focuses influence your corners
With the Tactical Focus, you have the option to choose between Standard, Offensive, and Defensive with a click of the “right arrow”. In the game with or against the ball, we couldn’t notice a significant difference between the individual alignments.
What changes with Tactical Focus? However, the selection options are suitable for determining the number of your players who should appear in the opponent’s penalty area during corners. The settings affect your own corners as follows:
- Offensive: 6 of your players in the opponent’s + 1 of your players in front of the opponent’s penalty area
- Standard: 5 of your players in the opponent’s + 1 of your players in front of the opponent’s penalty area
- Defensive: 3 of your players in the opponent’s + 3 of your players in front of the opponent’s penalty area
Here’s how Tactical Focus helps you: Depending on the game situation, you can use the different Tactical Focus options to act more defensively or offensively.
In the case of a lead, it may be helpful to switch to “Defensive” to better secure against opposing counterattacks.
In the event that you are trailing, you can order an additional player into the penalty area with “Offensive” to create even more goal threat.
Quick tactics for quick ball recoveries and more offensive power
The Quick Tactics have an immediate effect during the game with and against the ball, unlike the Tactical Focus. Therefore, they can be an even more crucial factor.
In FC 25, the following Quick Tactics are available after clicking the “up arrow”:
- Offside trap: allows your defensive line to quickly move forward 2-3 steps at the push of a button
- Team pressing: your team applies more pressure on the ball carrier and opposing players collectively for a certain period
- Numerical advantage in set pieces: increases the number of your players who are in the opponent’s penalty area during free kicks (corners excluded)
- Players in the penalty area: increases your players’ willingness to penetrate the opponent’s penalty area with runs from play
Here’s how Quick Tactics help you: The Quick Tactics are designed to put more pressure on the opponent and offer you more options in attack.
The “Team Pressing” is undoubtedly the most effective, as it can lead to rapid ball recoveries on your side. Like the offside trap, team pressing has a cooldown period, so you need to activate it again after some time for it to take effect.
If you need to score a goal in the last minutes of the match, you should also consider activating “Numerical Advantage in Set Pieces” and “Players in the Penalty Area.” The more players who stay in the opponent’s penalty area during play or after set pieces, the more danger you pose in the offense.
For all Quick Tactics, you also increase the risk of being hit by counterattacks from the opponent that could result in a conceded goal. In the face of a looming defeat, however, the Quick Tactics can be your last hope to somehow score a goal. Cristiano Ronaldo has delivered goals like clockwork in his career.
