Stranger Things has just concluded, but the next project from the showrunners of the long-running Netflix-series is already in the pipeline. It will be even darker than the nostalgic 80s homage.
In December 2025, the finale of Stranger Things flickered across home screens, marking the end of a series that started in 2016 and ended after nearly 10 years following five seasons. The two showrunners, Matt and Ross Duffer, finally have time for other projects, and it seems they are already utilizing it.
As Netflix has now announced, a new horror series is set to premiere in March, with the two brothers serving as executive producers. This means they are stepping away from the showrunner role, and Haley Z. Boston will take over, who is also responsible for the story.
The connection to Stranger Things is still palpable, as the genres seem to be somewhat similar – even if the story revolves around a very adult theme rather than children.
Unfortunately, there is still no trailer for the new series; instead, you can watch the one from the finale of Stranger Things:
Atmospheric Horror for the Wedding
What kind of series is this? The title already promises something sinister: Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen. It tells the story of the couple Rachel and Nicky, who are followed over several days during their wedding preparations – up until their wedding ceremony. Each episode is supposed to cover one day, with things getting progressively worse.
Netflix has not revealed exactly what will happen, but the streaming service is already drawing comparisons on the official website to horror classics such as Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby. According to showrunner Haley Z. Boston, it will focus on the fear of marrying the wrong person. The series intends to explore the idea of soulmates – in a rather dark manner.
Netflix clearly states that it’s a horror genre. However, those expecting shock effects might be disappointed. Instead, the production aims to impress with a disturbing atmosphere that “gets under your skin.” Viewers can expect more of an atmospheric horror that is very character-driven.
I love exploring characters. I think that sometimes that is missing in the horror genre. My natural approach is to start from the characters, dialogues, and the humor, and then mix that with disturbing horror… I think to myself: “I want to be disturbed. I want to be scared.”

Boston already has experience in the horror genre, having written scripts for the series Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix.
Who is in the cast? In the two lead roles, Camila Morrone (The Night Manager) stars as Rachel and Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus) as Nicky.
Alongside them, Jennifer Jason Leigh (Hateful Eight), Ted Levine (Moon), Jeff Wilbusch (Unorthodox), and several others are part of the cast.
When does the series premiere? Horror fans can rejoice as Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen will premiere on March 26, 2026. All eight episodes will be released simultaneously. How much of an influence the Duffer brothers and their series Stranger Things will be noticeable is something we can determine by the release date at the latest. There will also be a spin-off in 2026: With the spin-off of Stranger Things, Netflix is taking a risk, as one character could potentially disrupt the story
