The pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are one of the highlights of the game. But they watch you closely and remember your actions. Such as when you visit a brothel in the game.
Who or what are the pawns? The companions in Dragon’s Dogma 2, called pawns, are a central part of the player experience.
They accompany you on your explorations, fight by your side, and support you. In addition to your main pawn, which you create in the character editor, you can have up to two additional companions by your side. You can summon them in the Rift.
You have the choice between pawns created by Capcom itself and those from the community.
However you decide, one thing is clear: The pawns are more than just fighting machines. They comment on events and point out hidden places. For what a pawn has experienced with its awakened remembers and passes on that knowledge to future players.
This applies to hidden chests or rift stones as well as to spicy details that you might not want to share with everyone.
A visit to a brothel does not go unnoticed
What happens when you visit a brothel? If you are wandering the city of Vernworth, it may happen that you stumble upon a brothel.
If you are the abstinent type, you will, of course, walk on and dedicate yourself to the little and big adventures of the game world. Or you may decide otherwise and pay a visit to the brothel.
This will cost you a mere 20,000 gold, so it’s not insignificant. For your “visit,” you can choose between humans and beastmen, the new race in the game. If you visit the establishment more than once, exclusive options will even be available to you.
How do the pawns behave? Thankfully, your faithful pawns remain outside during your intimate moments and give you the necessary privacy. However, they naturally know what happened behind closed doors.
Instead of keeping that knowledge to themselves, they take it with them into the game worlds of other players. It can happen that another player, completely unknown to you, learns about your brothel visits this way.
The pawns then say something like: “The private quarters of an awakened, to whom I served, had many visitors, but rarely the same one.”
Your companions are therefore far from silent and do not hesitate to blab your secrets. In the end, however, this contributes to the liveliness of the NPC companions. They are not just silent minions who assist you in battle.
And just as they give you tips on quests, which they have gained from adventures with other players, they reveal what they have experienced with you in return. If you often visit brothels, that could possibly be the topic of the next conversation.
This further highlights the significance of the pawn system. Dragon’s Dogma 2 can especially stand out from other role-playing games because of this. MeinMMO editor Karsten has explained in a separate article what he thinks of Dragon’s Dogma 2 – and why the pawns, among other things, are something really special.
