Players are eagerly awaiting the MMORPG for League of Legends (LoL). A few weeks ago, the news circulated that the game was not guaranteed. Now the head clarifies what that meant.
This is what happened recently: On Twitter, the head of the MMO, which is currently in development, made waves with tweets. Greg Street spoke about the state of the game. However, a few details were taken out of context or misunderstood.
In new tweets, he explains what was misunderstood, how the game is currently doing, and what Riot Games’ policy towards new games looks like.
“It’s going great. The team is so well set up”
This is what the head says: Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street leads the development of the LoL MMORPG. He says:
A few weeks ago, I wrote a tweet in which I wanted to emphasize what kind of commitment I have made to this MMO. Some players and media picked up on the part “might never be released” and concluded that the development is not going well. Spoiler: It’s going great. This team is so well set up.
But there is no guarantee that a game will be released in this business. Anyone who makes that promise is basically saying that they will release the game even if it is disappointing. We will not release a disappointing game. (We also will not crunch just to make sure the game is as good as possible.)

He explains what could hinder the implementation of this MMO and what the next steps are. “Do I believe that Riot will eventually release an MMO? Absolutely. There are so many reasons to do so.”
However, he explains that he might not be the right head for it, that there might not be the right team yet, or that the design might not yet be right. But the company would keep working with the developer until it becomes the game you wish for.
What happened beforehand? In the earlier tweets that Street refers to, he wrote that there is no guarantee for a release of this game. They are very optimistic at Riot that it will work out, but you never know what happens. He explains that it is probably his last major project he is working on and is quite satisfied with that prospect.
If the current project does not meet the high standards of Riot Games, it will not be released in that state.
