Actually, 8K should even be possible. However, a previously reliable leaker now claims: Sony’s next-gen console PlayStation 5 (PS5) is struggling with games in 4K resolution.
Numerous players and fans are looking forward to the release of the PlayStation 5, which is expected to happen at the end of 2020. After all, the PS5 is supposed to set new standards in gaming. Among other things, Sony promises smooth gameplay in native 4K. And even 8K resolution should be possible.
You’ll find more about it here: PlayStation 5 – Everything we know about Sony’s upcoming PS5
But a well-known leaker now claims that he has heard about performance issues with the PS5. What’s going on?
Where does this info come from? The information comes from Twitter user AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem. He is considered a fairly reliable leaker. For instance, he has correctly predicted a lot of insider information about Capcom’s upcoming flagship title, Resident Evil 8 – even before the reveal trailer at the PS5 event.
Many people are therefore listening to his words. However, please remember: These are not officially confirmed information. So treat it with the appropriate degree of caution and skepticism.
This is what the leaker says in detail about PS5 performance: Recently, AestheticGamer was asked on Twitter how the PS5 would handle Capcom’s new graphics engine.
The leaker mentioned, among other things, that Resident Evil 8 would run well at launch. However, he has heard from other developers that the PS5 is currently having problems with 4K games. Therefore, we will see a lot of “fake 4K” (upscaled content). Many don’t care, but one should also be prepared for that. According to him, this is not the case with the Xbox Series X.
How likely is this claim? On one hand, this is unofficial information. So one should generally be cautious.
On the other hand, there is currently no solid indication that the PS5 would have performance issues. On the contrary – so far, Sony’s new console along with its hardware and capabilities has been loudly praised by numerous developers and its performance has been highly commended.
Additionally, it is unknown in what development stage the games were when the developers spoke to AestheticGamer. So it is not really possible to assess whether this is the final performance or not.
However, AestheticGamer is not known for spreading misinformation. So we have to wait. But the release for the holiday business at the end of the year is slowly approaching, so more and more of the PS5 and its gameplay should be visible soon. Then one can get a better picture than what is currently possible.
