CCP Games has announced an intervention in the economy of the space MMOs EVE Online, stirring up a hornet’s nest.
What is this announcement about? In the future, the distribution of resources in the zones will be handled differently. The reason for this is that players should make more decisions about where they want to mine resources in the future. It will become riskier to obtain certain resources. The goal is to create a healthier economy.
However, interventions in the economy of EVE Online are always very problematic, as the community does not look favorably upon such changes. And trouble is already brewing.
An intervention in the game
What exactly is changing? You will now find different resources in the individual security zones HiSec, LowSec, and NullSec. The wormholes, on the other hand, will no longer provide a means to mine resources.
| Security Zone | Exclusive Minerals | Removed Minerals |
|---|---|---|
| HiSec | Tritanium | Isogen, Nocxium, Zydrine, Megacyte, Morphite |
| LowSec | Isogen, Nocxium | Tritanium, Zydrine, Megacyte, Morphite |
| NullSec | Zydrine, Megacyte, Morphite | Tritanium, Nocxium (some availability through Sov anomalies remains) |
| Wormholes | – | Tritanium, Nocxium, Morphite |
The amount of minerals you receive from asteroids will also change.
What is the problem? EVE players Afasso explains it this way: Many players have been hoarding minerals for quite some time. Especially the resources that are rarely used will take a long time to adjust in price. High-end resources and Isogen are abundant. It was mainly the low-end minerals that became the bottleneck in production.
With the redistribution of resources in the security zones, NullSec and LowSec become extremely unattractive. Because that is where the resources currently in abundance will be located. Most will stay in the HighSec area, which is indeed very boring for mining resources. There is simply no excitement of being attacked. And why would anyone want to mine resources in dangerous areas when they are available in abundance?
This could impact the production of capital ships and the economy of the game. Because the production of these ships consumes a lot of high-end resources. Such ships are likely to become even more expensive.
While this may prevent inflationary production of capital ships, those who already own some will essentially become even more powerful.
According to Afasso, CCP is shooting the economy of EVE Online in the knee with this change.
What do the players think? The EVE community cannot believe that this change was approved so easily by CCP Games. Because the consequences could be significant.
Therefore, there is a suspicion that this change is just part of what CCP Games has planned.
EVE player Cuzmo suggests on reddit: “Either they didn’t do proper research before coming up with this idea, or there’s something quite large that hasn’t been announced yet. Something that makes these changes not as bad as expected.”
Now it’s time to wait and see what happens. The changes are planned for mid-October. Let’s see how they really impact EVE Online.
