One of the most anticipated games of 2023, Diablo 4, is launching soon. However, the mood beforehand is cautious – and not just towards Blizzard. MeinMMO wants to know from you: are you still pre-ordering games?
The discussion keeps coming up, and in dozens of threads on Reddit and elsewhere, there is ongoing debate about pre-orders. The problem is that in recent years, games have often released in an unacceptable state:
- Fallout 76 still had some bugs from its predecessors
- Battlefield 2042 was a technical disaster
- Cyberpunk 2077 was even sued for being unplayable
Recently, a new game called Redfall was released, which did not receive good reviews. On Steam, the vampire shooter currently has only 32% and is rated “mostly negative” (as of May 9) – for a price of 70 euros.
Currently, the topic is very hot, as two new games are coming out that hundreds of thousands of fans are waiting for: Diablo 4 on June 6 and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on May 12.
Some are waiting for journalists’ assessments before pre-ordering. You can see what we think of Diablo 4 in the video:
Accordingly, the discussions around this topic are heated. Some gamers see the pre-order system as a scam and do not want to give companies any advance trust.
Others take it more relaxed: if they know they want to play a game, they pre-order it. If it turns out to be bad, they just had bad luck. So, we want to know from you: what do you think?
The problem with the discussion is that many players have even started attacking each other. They say that pre-orders are the reason that games are increasingly being released unfinished. After all, companies have already pocketed the money upfront.
Cynics argue that no further work is needed. And those who pre-order are to blame for it never changing and have low self-control anyway. There are even accusations flying.
Others argue that they can do whatever they want with their money. And if they are sure they want to try a game anyway, they will spend money on it. The bonuses for pre-ordering are a valid reason to jump in early.
