In Diablo 4 there is the resource “Living Steel”. This item is quite important because with the right amount, you can obtain Mythic Uniques for your heroes. We will show you all the locations on the map, how to use them, and if you can also buy living steel.
Where can I find living steel? The rare resource “Living Steel” can be farmed in the Helltides at torment levels 1-4. First, gather embers, which you can obtain from Helltide enemies. Fortunately, you no longer have to be meticulous about missing any embers nearby, as your diligent pet helps you collect.
Once you have gathered enough embers, open the chests in the Helltide. You will receive the most living steel (about 14 pieces) from the mysterious chests that cost 250 embers. However, you can also get steel from other “cheaper” chests – about 1-2 pieces each.
Below we show you the locations of all the chests in each Helltide area that exists in Diablo 4. All spawn points are fixed and rotate every hour.

To find living steel, you must open chests in the Helltides. Note that the chests with a cost of 250 embers yield the most steel. If you also want to farm gear and materials, the other chests are suitable if you have leftover embers.

What you should know: There is a problem where the chests at the fixed spawn points do not appear. The reason for this is a visual bug, as the chests are there but are invisible. You can fix the problem by traveling with your hero to another area or dungeon or quickly switching your character. Then return to the chest. It should now be visible (via youtube.com)
Can you buy living steel? Unfortunately, living steel cannot be purchased from vendors in Diablo 4. You have to gather it yourself or trade materials with friends or other players – for instance, through the trade chat in Diablo 4.
Diablo 4: Using Living Steel – Here’s How
Living steel is needed to summon Grigoire, an undead holy knight. He is located in the Dry Steppes in a dungeon called “Hall of Atonement”, south of the waypoint “Ked Bardu”.
Once you have found the dungeon, enter it, run through to the end, and use the living steel at the altar in the boss room as summoning material. Overall, you need 12 “Living Steel” per run at all torment levels.
At the torment levels, in addition to Grigoire, there are other bosses that you can summon with specific materials. With them, you have the opportunity to farm various Uniques and Mythic Uniques for your builds.
