At the start of Season 3 in Diablo 4, the Steward had to endure a lot of criticism from the community. Now, the third season is in full swing, and the construct is praised for its power: It even takes down powerful bosses on its own. And Blizzard will make your Companion even stronger in the next patch.
What is the Steward? The Steward, aka the construct, is the highlight of the third season in Diablo 4. Season 1 brought buffs in the form of Boshafte Hearts, while your character in Season 2 was impressive through Vampiric Powers.
You enhance the construct with rune stones that make it more powerful: You can equip your Steward with up to 2 so-called guiding stones that determine your companion’s behavior. Additionally, you can use up to 6 tuning stones. You have 12 guiding stones and 27 tuning stones to choose from.

How is Blizzard buffing the construct? The new Patch 1.3.1 for Diablo 4 goes live on February 1, 2024. Most of the patch focuses on the Steward, specifically buffs for your companion spider:

How has it gone with the Steward so far? The Steward is quite useless, especially at low levels. This led players to be very frustrated about the gimmick at the start of the third season. That was the status on January 25.
However, already on January 28, we could report about an exciting development: At higher levels, the Steward suddenly becomes extremely popular.
After an emergency patch for the season, guiding and tuning stones now drop twice as often as before. This, combined with faster possible build testing, led to a significant uptick in the popularity of the pet: It is now even wiping out bosses like Uber Duriel effortlessly.
