On March 11, 2026, the “Season of Slaughter” started. Content-wise, it literally revolves around bloody mayhem. The highlight is that for the first time in the series’ history, you can step into the shoes of the Butcher yourself.
How can I become the Butcher? There are three ways to play as the Butcher:
- Slaughterhouses: In these dungeons, you are constantly active as the Butcher and take down enemies with special attacks.
- Shrines of Slaughter: You can find these in the Hell Floods (marked by a special symbol). Activate them with a “Meaty Offering” to transform yourself.
- PvP Areas: Collect “Wildness” on the Fields of Hatred. For the most brutal player, a Butcher Idol appears, allowing him to transform into the Butcher.

Farming Keys for Slaughterhouses – Here’s How It Works
Where do I find the slaughterhouses? You can only enter the special dungeons after completing the seasonal quest line and collecting the respective keys. You then activate the keys in your inventory, similar to keys for Nightmare Dungeons. After that, you can click on the map symbol to teleport directly to the dungeon.
In the slaughterhouses, you are constantly active as the Butcher, taking down groups of enemies, including Wanderers and Adventurers. You use special attacks from your customized skill bar for this. Your goal in the slaughterhouse is to eliminate as many enemies as possible in about 3 minutes. As loot, you receive bloodstained items.
Where can I get keys for the slaughterhouses? You can obtain keys for the slaughterhouses from various sources:
- Seasonal Quest Line: Your first slaughterhouse keys and the task to enter a slaughterhouse are obtained within the seasonal quest line.
- Hell Flood: Keys drop from elite enemies, normal monsters (especially at active Shrines of Slaughter), and from Hell Flood chests.
- Seasonal Rank: At the Brutality Table in Gea Kul, you receive rewards when you collect “Brutality” in kill streaks. The rewards may also include slaughterhouse keys.
Therefore, it is advisable to spend time in the Hell Floods to farm slaughterhouse keys. Activate the Shrines of Slaughter with Meaty Offerings or join other players who are doing the same.
Collecting Meaty Offerings and Fresh Meat
Where do I get Meaty Offerings? To use the Shrines of Slaughter, you need one Meaty Offering each. You can mainly find these in Hell Flood chests. They can also drop as a reward in the slaughterhouses or randomly in Nightmare Dungeons.
What do I need Fresh Meat for? When you eliminate enemies as the Butcher, “Fresh Meat” drops. This is a seasonal currency that you can exchange with Kael Rills, the “Butcher” vendor in Gea Kul, for bloodstained items. You select a category and receive a random item – similar to the Curiosity Dealer with Obolis.
Season 12 not only brings the Butcher as a playable form into the ARPG. He also permanently joins as a new Hideout boss in Diablo 4 and comes with his own Uniques.
