In previous “Campfire Chat” livestreams, the developers of Diablo 4 provided insight into the content of the new Season 8. We summarize all the important information for you below and keep it updated regularly.
Season 8: Release Date, End, and Patch Notes
When does Season 8 start? Diablo 4 Season 8 starts on April 29, 2025 with a delay of two weeks. According to the Diablo chief, the update needs more development time than originally planned. “An old friend” is also coming to the game. We expect the update to start around 7 PM.
When does Season 8 end? According to the official roadmap for Diablo 4, Season 8 ends in July 2025. We will keep you informed. The 2025 roadmap in Diablo 4 gives you an overview of the timelines and seasonal content.
Is there a PTR for Season 8? The PTR (Public Test Realm) ran from March 11 to March 18, 2025. There you could test all the new content shown by Blizzard in the livestream. This includes the new bosses, the changes to the summoning system, and the seasonal mechanics.
After Blizzard just introduced the new torment levels, they are adjusting the highest difficulties in Season 8: only 10% of players are expected to play on Torment 4 – and that seems to be true. Players tested the season on the PTR, and opinions on the changes are mixed.

Season 8: Theme, Features, and New Uniques
What is the theme of Season 8? The official theme of Season 8 is “The Return of Belial.” The focus is on the Lord of Lies, the other hideout bosses, and their powers. To start the seasonal quest “Lord of Lies,” you need to speak with the Stranger in Kyovashad. You must have completed the campaign once.
What’s included in Season 8? In past “Campfire Chat” livestreams, the developers reported on the seasonal content and some “Quality of Life” changes in Diablo 4:
- Season mechanics: In Season 8, you take on the powers of 24 bosses when you defeat them. This allows you to acquire their attacks and strengthen your builds – or benefit from passive bonuses.
- New seasonal event: In the new seasonal appearance raid event, you will encounter Belial’s manifestation monsters and need to drive them away. The event spawns every few minutes at different locations in Sanctuary on all difficulty levels. If you clear the monsters, one of 10 appearance bosses spawns, and finally, a “smaller” version of Belial himself. If you defeat the bosses, you can also acquire their powers.
- Endgame bosses are “Hideout Bosses”: The endgame bosses are divided into three tiers of “Hideout Bosses”: Candidates, Great, and Exalted. The larger ones include Andariel, Duriel, and the Harbinger of Hatred. The exalted hideout boss is Belial, who is said to be a real tough nut to crack. Additionally, the summoning of bosses in Diablo 4 is changing, meaning you no longer need materials for that. However, you can use materials to open chests after boss fights to collect even more loot.
- Torment 4 will be tougher: Blizzard’s philosophy is that only 10% of players should reach Torment 4. In Season 7, it was 50%. They are raising the difficulty by increasing the torment levels. The health points of the monsters increase by 20% multiplicatively per level. Torment 1 starts at torment level 10, while Torment 4 corresponds to torment level 76 of the current Season 7.
- Slower progress until level 25: Leveling in Season 8 is not supposed to be as quick as in the current Season 7. This change is intended to reduce the need to constantly upgrade items in the early game and increase the value of activities and seasonal rewards. Additionally, legendary items are expected to drop less frequently, while magic and rare items will become useful again.
- “Quality of Life-Updates: In the dungeon description, starting with Season 8, you will see which hideout boss you will encounter in that dungeon and which materials you need to open the chest after the boss fight. Additionally, you can teleport to the boss dungeon once you have discovered it.
- New Uniques: In Season 8, there will be a total of 6 new Uniques introduced – one for each class. You can see which ones they are and what they do in our overview:

Which class is the best in Season 8? At the moment, it seems particularly that the Necromancers and Spiritborn are benefiting from the buffs that Blizzard is implementing at the start of Season 8.
