One of the rarest items available in Diablo 4 has now been found for the first time. A Chinese player at level 100 found the sword “The Grandfather.” Another user at level 76 shared the screenshot of the find, but the community cannot rejoice for the lucky player.
What is the problem? The uniques drop with random values within a specified range. “The Grandfather” can, for example, deal between 42.0 and 84.0 percent more damage. The value of the dropped sword is only determined at the time of the drop.
The player lands with most values rather in the mid-range and does not have a value that particularly stands out positively (via reddit.com):
- 69.0 % damage (within 42.0 to 84.0 %)
- + 3,526 maximum health (range + 2,469 to 4,584)
- + 72 for all stats (range + 60 to 108)
- 84 % increased critical damage (range 60 to 100 %)
These values are particularly frustrating because the chance of obtaining one of the rarest uniques is already so low. User staebles mentions in the corresponding reddit post that only five drops are known so far:
Accordingly, the player now has to hope that he will eventually get the same item again, but with higher values.

Where did the player get the item? “The Grandfather” comes from an event chest from the Hell Flood. This is a special event that takes place at specified times. We need to collect “Anomalous Ember” to open the chests called “Tormented Gifts”. “The Grandfather” can be found in these.
The Hell Flood can only be unlocked starting from Nightmare difficulty, the third world tier of Diablo 4. In this region-specific event, we can obtain items with high item power, which can even be “Holy” or “Empowered”.
Existence of uniques like “The Grandfather” has been questioned for Diablo 4

One requirement is that you must defeat enemies at least level 85. Unfortunately, the screenshot does not make it clear at what level the Chinese player obtained his “The Grandfather.”
Due to their high values, rare uniques are suitable for many builds. Especially “The Grandfather” and the “Harlequin’s Crown” are likely to be of great benefit to many players.
