The Harlequin Crown, or “Shako,” is the dream of many players in Diablo 4. A player has now secured the rare hat – unfortunately with the worst roll possible. This causes envy on one side and mockery on the other.
What kind of item is this:
- The Harlequin Crown is one of the so-called “Uber Uniques” and thus one of the rarest items in the game.
- The special thing about the crown is that it grants +4 to all skills and is the only helmet in the game that provides damage reduction.
- For many of the best builds in Diablo 4, it is considered a “must have” if you want the best items.
That’s why Shako is still bad for the player: On Reddit, the user Sasuke963_ posted a post showcasing his drop. With an item power of 820 and pretty good rolls, the helmet is actually very decent.
Only the damage reduction, the (still) best defensive stat in the game, is as bad as it can be: from the 10-20%, the player received a glorious 10%. Therefore, the item is still better than most other helmets, but this stat is a dampener.
The reactions on Reddit are mostly insults that are rather meant in jest. In the top comment, it even says: “I want to say many nasty things to you, but you are already getting enough of that. So, congratulations. You jerk.”
Sasuke963_ himself thanks everyone, even for the mockery and the “insults,” but also mentions: the roll could have been better. This leads to a discussion about the system itself.
“This is a good aspect of item design”
The comment from I_heart_boobs_a_lot received over 1,300 upvotes. The user describes the idea of Uber Uniques as redundant if they do not come with a max roll by definition. They should be the best that the game has to offer.
Other players argue that the idea of variable stats on such rare items is actually good for design. What rather bothers them is the limited trading. In the current system, Uber Uniques are something to show off – but only if they are well-rolled.
A compromise could be to set the limits closer together. Instead of 10-20% in the example of Shako, 15-20% would be better. Higher limits are only good if the item were not as extremely rare as it is now.
Generally, the idea of Uber Uniques is, however, controversial in the community. For items that were advertised as the pinnacle for any build, they are far too less decisive in reality for most players:
