At the curiosity merchants, you can obtain items in Diablo 4 that have a rarity ranging from common to legendary. In addition to the rarity levels, there are “sacred” and “gifted” items that can drop depending on the world tier.
- At World Tier 3, you can obtain “sacred” items, but also uniques.
- At World Tier 4, you can obtain “gifted” items (also known as “ancestral items”) and more uniques.
This also applies to the curiosity merchants that you can find in various locations in Diablo 4. However, you must first collect oboli – the currency with which you can purchase items from the special merchants.

What kind of items can I get? At the curiosity merchant, you can spend oboli and “gamble” for specific items. You can choose between equipment, weapons, and Whispering Keys. With the keys, you can open silent chests that you find in the open world.
What do I “gamble” for at the curiosity merchant? You can choose equipment and weapons that suit your class and build. To increase the chance of a specific item or aspect, one player has developed a gambling tool to calculate the optimal use of oboli.
How do I obtain “sacred” and “gifted” items there? To have a chance at “sacred” items at the curiosity merchants, you need to be at World Tier 3. You will only have a chance at “gifted” items at World Tier 4 – however, this is not a guarantee. For example, at World Tier 4, you can receive items that are “gifted” but at the same time only “magical”, meaning blue.

To trade with the curiosity merchant, you need oboli. These are the small purple “coins” you receive through various events in Diablo 4.
A specific number of oboli is required for the items. For example, caps, boots, and gloves cost about 40 oboli, while amulets and rings cost 60 oboli.
Where do I get oboli? There are various ways to obtain oboli. You can get them from legion and local events, which you can recognize by the red circle on your minimap when you are nearby. Events in dungeons can also yield oboli.
How to find the special merchants
Where do I find the curiosity merchants? You can recognize the curiosity merchants by the symbols with the money bag and the question mark on the map. Locations where you can find some include: Kyovashad, Cerrigar, Ked Bardu, Jirandai, Gea Kul, Zarbinzet, Hinterpfuhl, and Yelesna.
A special feature is the “Unappetizing” curiosities. Their merchants can only be found in the PvP areas.
There, you can also gamble on “sacred” and “gifted” items (in our case, it was caps, tunics, gloves, boots, leg armor) – but you don’t pay with oboli, but with Red Dust, which enemies drop in PvP areas.
