The new patch for Blizzard’s Diablo 3 will be overhauling some legendary gems to make them fit “better” into the game.
In particular, the popular legendary gems are now in focus. The reason is that some of these gems do not fulfill a clear role. Some gems in Diablo 3 fit perfectly into a specific role, while others fit a specific playstyle (for example, the “Enforcer” fits a playstyle with many companions); while some gems perform poorly in their role or do not fit into a specific role at all.
This is why 5 legendary gems have been chosen for revision in the upcoming patch. These are not the last gems to be revised in Diablo 3. However, they are the ones that currently stand out the most to the development team. These gems will now either receive a clearer role assignment or just a little “refinement.”
These legendary gems will be revised in Diablo 3
The following changes will take place for the Enforcer:
- Companions take less damage
- The damage bonus can now be combined with other sources that provide a similar damage bonus (example: “Tasker and Theo”)
With these changes, the aim is to make this gem a reasonable choice for players who play with many companions. The survival of these companions is important. It was also considered to make the companions invulnerable at gem level 25, but that would make the gameplay too dull.
The following changes will take place for Gogok of Swiftness:
- A stack of “Swiftness” is now generated with every attack
- In addition to attack speed, each stack of Swiftness now also increases a bonus to dodge chance
- With each gem level, the dodge chance will be increased additionally
Since now “Swiftness” is constantly active in combat, it is easier for the development team to adjust the values of this gem. Because this gem now provides attack speed, cooldown reduction and toughness, it will become an option for multiple playstyles and roles.
The following changes will take place for Mirinae, Tear of the Starweaver:
- “Strike Down” now does more damage
- The bonus damage per gem level has also been increased
- The cooldown of Strike Down at gem level 25 has been reduced
- Strike Down now also heals you every time an enemy is hit by it for a percentage of your maximum life
To differentiate Mirinae more from other legendary gems in Diablo 3, some changes were necessary. With these changes, the gem is now intended to be an option for players who need more damage on single targets and also do not say “No!” to additional healing.
The following changes will take place for Strength of Simplicity:
- The damage bonus is now combinable with other sources that provide a similar damage bonus (example: “Depth Digger”)
- The healing granted by the gem at level 25 has now been increased
To better align the gem with its role, it has now been upgraded. While it has always been “nice” when primary skills dealt more damage, this bonus must of course be sufficiently high to compete against other gems.
The following changes will take place for Taeguk:
- Now grants a stack only when resources are spent on a channeled skill
- These stacks are now limited to 10
- The stacks no longer last 3 seconds but decay faster
- The damage bonus has been increased
- With each gem level, the damage bonus increases
- The armor bonus received at gem level 25 has been increased
This gem has been comprehensively changed to avoid being an “all-rounder for nearly every role”. Currently, the gem fits almost every playstyle, and players simply spam skills into the void to maintain the stacks. The aim is for this gem to be used by players who play with skills like Barrage or Whirlwind. While the changes to this gem are significant, other gems have been adjusted accordingly.
What do you think of the changes? Finally some sensible legendary gems in Diablo 3, or was everything fine as it was?
