The studio Guerrilla Games is working on a new secret online game. This is evident from the numerous job postings that the developer has published on the official site. It likely takes place in the world of Horizon.
Which job postings are being referred to? The developer Guerrilla Games is looking for new employees, and quite a few at that. A total of 45 positions are to be filled, covering all areas of game development. Everything is included:
- Tool Designer
- Lead Combat Designer
- Gameplay Animation Manager
- Cinematics Animation Manager
- Stylized Senior Creature Animator
- Game Writer and many more.
What is interesting, however, is that some job postings specifically refer to an “Online Project” whose name is still unknown. Almost half of the job offers revolve around this online project.
What kind of project could this be? The descriptions of the positions suggest that a new team is apparently being established to work on a stylized game set in the Horizon universe.
In the announcement tweet, it is also stated that the story will not revolve around the heroine Aloy. Rather, the game will feature new characters and will take place outside the main story of Horizon.
The tweet also indicates that the online game will at least have cooperative elements, as it states: “Friends will be able to explore the majestic wilderness of Horizon together.”
According to the job descriptions on the site, fans can also expect a lot of story from the online title. The new team is looking for several writers and narrative designers to collaboratively create a “deep and complex story.”
So it could be a multiplayer coop game or a survival game, for example. Some fans hope on reddit for a Monster Hunter-like game, which would fit Horizon.
And what about the Horizon MMORPG? In November 2022, Sony announced an MMORPG set in the world of Horizon. However, the game is being developed in collaboration with NCSoft, the Korean company behind Aion and Blade and Soul.
However, the new online game is an internal project of Guerrilla Games. It is therefore rather unlikely that this is the announced Horizon MMORPG.
