Vampire Survivors visually resembles old Castlevania games but has little to do with them in terms of gameplay. You control a character on a map. There is no active attacking, but with items and passive modifiers, you build an attack automation to survive as long as possible.
Meanwhile, the game has received several DLCs and crossovers. However, that was apparently only the beginning. As the developer confirmed in a post, the game is getting a live-action film, even though the developer admits that his game actually has no story.

He further adds that the lack of story in the game is particularly exciting for the live-action adaptation. In the post, he explains that he is working with the company Story Kitchen.
