What is the game about? In the year 2038, the development of artificial intelligence has progressed significantly. There are now androids, human-like robots that take on many tasks in society. They serve as workers, nannies, or nurses and are an integral part of modern Detroit. However, many people develop a hatred for androids because they contribute to job loss and some find them eerie.
In this world, you alternately take on the role of these 3 androids:
- Connor is a next-generation android and is deployed for crime fighting. He is supposed to enhance police investigations and investigate strange incidents involving androids that act against their programming, known as “deviants.”
- Kara is a household android tasked with raising a little girl who lives alone with her father. When the father resorts to violent behavior, she must break free from her programming to protect the girl.
- Markus was meant to be a support for an aging millionaire, running errands and serving as a housekeeper. However, when he is accused of being involved in a crime that would lead to his permanent shutdown, he too must make a decision.
The stories of the 3 characters intersect repeatedly, and through your choices, you can influence which characters succeed and which fail.
How is the game rated? On Steam, Detroit: Become Human is currently rated “very positive” with 94% from over 40,000 ratings. Looking at the newest ratings, it even stands at “overwhelmingly positive” with a substantial 97%.
Currently – and until December 1st – the game costs 7.99 euros on Steam instead of 39.99 euros.
Who is Detroit: Become Human suitable for? Essentially, the game is for everyone who prefers exciting stories, various decision-making options, and a cinematic presentation. However, those expecting constant action-packed or deep gameplay may be disappointed. The gameplay mainly consists of quick-time events, exploring the environment, or choosing the right responses.
The focus of the game is clearly the narrative surrounding a (perhaps not so distant) future where androids have become an integral part of human daily life and are crossing the threshold to independence.
For nearly 8 euros, you absolutely can’t go wrong here and will experience many evenings full of fun and excitement – and have the occasional experience where you’ll decide to replay the entire game to see other variations.
