The Festival of the Lost introduced a small hidden quest in Destiny 2 – without any significant rewards. Here’s why it might still be worth checking out.
What is the quest about? Currently, the Halloween event Festival of the Lost is in full swing in Destiny 2. Guardians pay tribute to the dead, collect paper masks, indulge in the event activity Haunted Forest, and show off their neon-lit armor.
However, in addition to the obvious starting quest that introduces you to Destiny 2’s Halloween celebration, Destiny 2 has also introduced a sort of mini-quest with the Festival of the Lost. It’s easy to overlook, which is why some Guardians might not even know about it.
It’s not an extensive quest, and apart from an event triumph, there isn’t a real reward for your efforts. However, it can still be worth it – especially if you’re keen on every little bit of background information about the world and characters of the Destiny universe.
How does the quest work? The quest essentially embodies the hunt for the event-specific triumph “A Brilliant Smile”. You need to brush your Guardian’s teeth and freshen their breath. To do this, you’ll travel through the solar system, visit the important NPCs of Destiny 2, and complete a series of smaller tasks – nothing really complex.
But the quest is easy to overlook, and it’s anything but obvious how to start it. The first Guardians probably stumbled upon it by chance. To kick off your journey across the solar system in search of a toothbrush, a few prerequisites must be met:
- You must have successfully completed the event activity Haunted Forest at least once.
- When you then visit Eris Morn on the Moon, you must wear the masquerade helm, including a mask.

What makes the quest so special? What makes a mini-quest with simple tasks, a lot of traveling, and no real reward still worth seeing? Quite simply – it offers unusual, sometimes deep and touching insights into the minds of some NPCs you visit during your journey.

With the exception of Eris, none of the characters actually talk to you – there are no voice lines. However, through text, you learn previously hidden things about various characters. For instance, Devrim Kay talks about his husband, who writes him letters. Petra shares that the Awoken don’t usually celebrate this festival, but that it is still nice to be part of it.
And in the end, even the usually very reserved Eris speaks unusually openly. You learn that she regrets how she used to behave regarding the festival. She felt hurt and dishonored when death was celebrated with candy and silly masks. However, over time, she has come to realize that the best way to honor the dead is to live as well as you can. Now she understands why people celebrate.
It’s a memorable moment that clearly shows that this character has developed noticeably – which is unfortunately rare in the world of Destiny. This alone should be worth the effort for anyone who enjoys deepening their knowledge about the world of Destiny 2.
