During the Solstice of Heroes, faulty event bounties create a tense atmosphere. Bungie has now disabled them in Destiny 2 until further notice. What does this mean for the players? And what’s next?
These are the issues with the event bounties: Currently, the late summer event Solstice of Heroes is running as part of Season 11. Players can complete event-specific bounties and are supposed to be rewarded with certain rewards in return. However, this has not worked as intended from the start.
For example, the weekly and additional Solstice bounties do not grant Glimmer (in-game currency) for the in-game shop Eververse. Additionally, the weekly event bounties apparently do not provide powerful loot. Both of these should be the case.
What does this mean concretely for the players? For players, this has annoying consequences. On one hand, players below Power Level 1,050 (without artifacts) do not receive the hoped-for boost from powerful items.
On the other hand, Guardians have been cut off from an important source of in-game currency since the event began. And this, even though the event revolves around Eververse and the currency is particularly needed right now. Numerous event items are also offered there for Glimmer, which many Guardians cannot afford at the moment.
How does Bungie respond? On August 17, Bungie initially announced on Twitter that they have now disabled the weekly Solstice bounties because they do not drop powerful loot as intended. When and how exactly these bounties will continue, the studio did not reveal at that time.
Later, the community manager dmg04 also spoke up on Reddit. There he shared that Bungie is working on a solution for the Glimmer issue.
They are currently gathering data on all players who submitted respective bounties in week 1 and aim to compensate them with the missing Glimmer amount by (hopefully) Friday.
Additionally, they plan to release a fix on the upcoming Thursday that should allow the affected event bounties to drop Glimmer again. After that, a second wave is also supposed to bring the remaining missing Glimmer to the Guardians.
A solution shouldn’t take too long to wait for – provided everything goes smoothly with the fix.
What do the players say? The faulty bounties have caused frustration in the past few days. Numerous players vented their frustrations on Reddit. The common sentiment is: They understand that fixes can take a while, but many need Glimmer now and not just at the end of the Solstice event.
It is often criticized that the developers take a long time to implement such a fix. If the situation had been reversed and players had received more rewards or otherwise benefitted from the bug, the error would have been fixed within days, if not hours – this is the statement of numerous players. For example, with the Glimmer Engrams on the Leviathan. That was resolved in no time.
What is the Solstice of Heroes all about? It is a seasonal summer event where Destiny 2 wraps up its ongoing year. Bungie reflects together with the Guardians on their previous achievements and celebrates the completed heroic acts.
Traditionally, there are elaborate event armor pieces to earn as well as various event-specific cosmetics in Eververse, which are quite popular among many Guardians.
