In Destiny 2, the Season of Dawn has granted new abilities to weapons. We have taken a closer look at the 5 new perks.
What’s happening in Destiny 2? Currently, Season 9 is in full swing. This time, Guardians must embark on an exciting journey through time. Additionally, the festive Dawning event is running until 2020.
Alongside new activities such as the Sundial, Bungie has also introduced brand new weapon abilities to the game. In this article, we’ll present the interesting perks to you. Furthermore, we will provide an assessment and ask: Can the fresh perks compete with the heavyweights?
Vorpal Weapon – Nightmare of Bosses, Vehicles, and PvP Supers
This is what the perk can do: With the Vorpal Weapon perk, your weapon damage increases against bosses, vehicles, and Guardian Supers in PvP. You can find the perk on primary and special weapons.
Against all supers, you deal 15% more damage. In Destiny 2, supers are essentially all bosses you can imagine. From the powerful raid boss to a strike boss, and even the chief of a lost sector, they all receive bonus damage.
Against majors or strong enemies with orange health bars, Vorpal Weapon has no effect. Additionally, you can increase the boss damage with the “Boss Spec” mod by an additional 7%.
There’s also a damage bonus of 15% against all types of vehicles. This affects enemy tanks or, for example, mosquitoes. But your own Sparrow is also affected. What you do with this knowledge is up to you.
In the Crucible, you see the biggest bonus from firearms with the new perk. An enemy super receives a full 50% more damage when you fire at it with Vorpal Weapon.
Conclusion on Vorpal Weapon: Especially in PvP, you can surprise enemy Guardians. Even solo, you can quickly take down the opponent from their seemingly safe super. In PvE, the benefit seems strong at first glance. However, we usually rely on special or power weapons for boss damage, not primary weapons.
Elemental Capacitor – Versatile Improvement
This is what the perk can do: Your weapon gains different passive bonuses through the Elemental Capacitor perk. This means that the effect is always active, without you needing to do anything special. Which effect is active is determined by your Guardian’s equipped elemental focus:
- Solar Focus: improves the reload speed by about 10%
- Arc Focus: noticeably improves handling
- Void Focus: improves stability while firing
Conclusion on Elemental Capacitor: The idea behind the perk is quite creative and something new in Destiny. Unfortunately, the individual bonuses are not game-changing. If additional effects were added, interesting elemental builds could be conceivable.
Osmosis – Changing of the Guard
This is what the perk can do: By using Osmosis, your grenade ability changes your weapon’s damage type. The focus element determines which damage type is taken on. If you throw a Void grenade, your weapon now deals Void damage.
The effect lasts until you switch or stow the weapon. The Osmosis ability can currently only be found on kinetic weapons. Alongside the new ritual weapon The Burr, Osmosis can also be found on the current event weapon:
Conclusion on Osmosis: Another ability that creatively plays with the elements. Unfortunately (or fortunately), there are primary weapons with elemental damage in Destiny 2. In Destiny 1, the Osmosis perk would have been much more useful, as almost all primary weapons were kinetic there.
Now, you can break shields faster and benefit from the appropriate damage type with an elemental burn during a strike, but the Osmosis ability doesn’t feel particularly powerful at the moment. The perk competes with strong damage abilities like Killclip.
Lead from Gold – Ammunition Abundance
This is what the perk can do: With the Lead from Gold ability, picking up heavy ammunition also grants you ammunition for your special weapon. The perk is only available on special weapons.
If you’re worried that this will result in less heavy ammo, you can rest easy. You still collect the same amount of precious heavy ammo. Additionally, you get a nice load of green special ammo.
Conclusion on Lead from Gold: This new ability proves quite useful. Especially when you put together a suitable build with ammo finders, you can practically do without a primary weapon. And alternately diminish enemies with your power and special weapons.
Clown Cartridge – Don’t Take Magazine Size So Seriously
This is what the perk can do: Clown Cartridge allows your weapon to overfill the magazine far beyond the normal capacity. Every time you reload, the ability activates. However, the new magazine size is random and can be up to 60% larger.
Currently, only one weapon comes with Clown Cartridge: the Linear Fusion Rifle Line in the Sand. You earn the weapon through the Mars Obelisks and the Sundial.
Conclusion on Clown Cartridge: Since currently, only one single weapon rolls with the perk, it’s hard to draw a conclusion. Although linear fusion rifles have been buffed in Season 9. However, they are not truly meta. But if, for example, rocket launchers gain access to magazine increases soon, things could get interesting.
