In Season 17, a new week in Destiny 2 starts today, and it seems to already cast its infectious shadows. While players notice strange changes in the air, the dark secret of a Cabal Empress must be uncovered. MeinMMO is equipped with anti-spore spray and reveals what to expect this week.
This is happening this week: After players in Destiny 2 have already “transformed” crows and Zavala’s nightmare in the ongoing story, they are likely to expect Ghaul, the nightmare of the Cabal Empress Caiatl, this week.
Caiatl is currently trying to maintain the blockade around Calus’ Leviathan with her ships while waiting for his next move. She is eager to find her father and put an end to him once and for all – but more and more Cabal from her army are defecting to him. Currently, it is still unclear where Calus is exactly. Has he merged with the altered Leviathan, or is he hiding in the lower part of his once opulent battleship?
But as if that weren’t enough, a threatening infection also seems to be in progress. The Empress’s troops are not only defecting but are also apparently being infected by the mysterious Egregore spores of the Darkness. For a week now, strange particles have been swirling through the air at the H.E.L.M., the operational hub of the Vanguard. Does this change their thoughts?
Are not only the Cabal but even the Guardians already infected? While players might soon find out, they are also expecting further activities in Destiny 2 this week.

Vanguard: Nightfall – The Crucible
The Nightfall: The Crucible is the Strike of the week:
- The Twisted Spire, on Nessus
- The Red Legion has begun drilling in “The Twisted Spire,” hoping to study and utilize Protheon, the Vex Modular Spirit as a weapon. But the Vex have reacted violently, causing the outbreak of a war zone near the drilling sites. The Vanguard is sending Guardians to destroy Protheon before the Red Legion can seize the Vex Spirit.
This is the Nightfall weapon of the week: In the 5th week of the “Season of the Haunted,” you can earn a special Nightfall weapon.
- The Nightfall weapon this week is the rocket launcher “Hothead.”
Playlist Strikes have these modifiers:
- Solar Scorch
- Brute
- Iron
- The Scorch modifier will accompany you all week, while the others change daily.
Endgame: Raid Challenges and Dungeon Rotation
This is happening in the current raid “The Oath of the Student” :
- This week in the raid “Oath of the Student,” the “Defense Failed” challenge requires you to kill only one Accursed Knight with your Relic.
- As a reward for the challenge in the third section of the raid on Grandmaster, this week you have a chance to receive a Master version of the submachine gun “Subjugation” or the fusion rifle “Redemption.” But keep in mind that hard and normal modes share the loot.
Additional top rewards from the endgame are available:
- in the raid “Last Wish” in the Dreaming City
- as well as in the corresponding dungeon “The Broken Throne”
Weekly Activities
With Season 17, new activities have also been introduced to the game. Explore the Leviathan and face the nightmares or surprising boss opponents in the new patrol zone. Equip the Solar Sense and defend yourself in the Nightmare Containment. Additionally, you can expect these weekly activities:
Savathun’s Throne World – Weekly Campaign Mission
- “The Ritual” – Repeatable Witch Queen campaign mission
- Make your way through Savathun’s symbol labyrinth before you stop her from spinning her schemes against the Traveler. It is the final battle with Savathun, the Witch Queen herself.

Ascendant Challenge – Dreaming City

This is the new max level: In the new season of the Haunted, the maximum power level of your equipment is 1,570. Thus, the power level at the start of Season 17 has increased by +10 power levels compared to the previous Season 16. All players have also been raised to a base power level of 1,350.
