Today the update 7.1.5.3 for Destiny 2 means a server downtime. As Bungie stated, they are already looking ahead and preparing the way for future changes. The systems of the loot shooter are to be more isolated from each other, so that a problem is less likely to lead to further issues. MeinMMO also tells you what you need to know today.
This is what you need to know today: At the end of June, Bungie already provided an update on game stability and the measures they have taken to make the gaming experience smooth and reliable. Because when the game does not work or guardians are excluded from activities, everything else is irrelevant.
19:08: The update is here and can be downloaded. On PC, the download size is 96.6 MB.
19:00: The servers are still offline. It will probably take a few more minutes.
17:25: Destiny 2 has just been taken offline due to planned maintenance. Now you will have to wait until 19:00 if everything works as planned.
We will keep you updated during the server downtime with a live ticker in this box. So watch for updates to this article.
So there is currently a lot going on behind the scenes.
- Bungie has integrated new protocols and metrics for the damage system.
- The monitoring dashboards of Destiny 2 have been significantly improved, allowing Bungie’s Network Operations Center to have better insights into these systems and detect, escalate, and diagnose issues faster.
- Additionally, the developer discovered and fixed a bug in the login system before it could cause problems for players.
The efforts encompass the stability of more than 50 services in Destiny 2 that contribute to the operation of the loot shooter. These include a load balancing code, the code for service-to-service communication, the internal message processing pipelines, and much more.
The support also has a lot ahead. While the focus in the upcoming Season 22 will still be on identifying and fixing current stability issues, Season 23 will aim to protect Destiny 2 from stability issues that could arise in the future.
However, we will first take a look at what may change for the guardians in the game today.
Maintenance on 08.08. – All times for the server downtime
These times are important today: Today’s update 7.1.5.3 will be released for all platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. According to current plans, the planned downtime is 1 hour and 45 minutes.
MeinMMO will monitor the server downtime and will regularly update this article with the latest information from Bungie support. Also, if there are any changes to the times.
This is the current schedule for today’s maintenance in Destiny 2:
- 16:00: The background maintenance starts on all platforms.
- 17:15: Bungie will take the servers offline. Players will be automatically kicked from the game.
- During the downtime, the update 7.1.5.3 will be applied and then rolled out gradually.
- 19:00: The projected login should be possible again in time for the weekly reset.
- However, maintenance will continue behind the scenes until 20:00, which means you might still experience disruptions during this time.
Please also note that third-party applications and the official companion app may not be accessible for a while and therefore cannot be used.
What changes with update 7.1.5.3 in Season 21
This is what the update 7.1.5.3 brings today: Many players hope that Bungie will address the finisher bug in today’s update. Because this bug is not only annoying but is also often used to troll other guardians.
- Players can die from finishers. However, only if the enemy dies before the finisher animation is completed.
This has led to the small malice that some guardians like to help other players to an involuntary death during the finisher by killing the animated opponent with their weapon beforehand.
Otherwise, these things are still on the targeted list of known issues:
- Bungie is investigating reports from players who cannot log in via Steam and are stuck on the loading screen.
- The skill mod does not make weapons ready faster or holster faster.
- The resilience statistic determines the damage resistance of the previous tier when it is a multiple of 10. A resilience of 100 provides the intended benefit appropriately.
- The cooldown timer for the exotic submachine gun “The Navigator” has no description and shows as an empty timer when activated.
- After focusing a master trials weapon from the 14th saint, subsequent focuses no longer indicate that the original requirement to have any trials pass with 7 victories still applies.
- Improved crafted weapons cannot apply or preview memento shaders.
- Blocking with the arc staff super while using the exotic helmet of the hunter “Decay Ranger” unintentionally consumes additional super energy.
- The shotgun “Lord of Wolves” has no crosshair for hip-firing.
- The shotgun “Windrose” does not appear in collections.
- The possessed portal and the heart at the end of the “Last Wish” raid may appear skewed. Memories at the end of a “Altar of Reflection” activity may appear skewed.
- Player name changes cannot be infinitely customized on bungie.net. Several “number guardians” are still waiting for the option to change their username again instead of receiving the message “You have no name changes available”.
Bungie points out that all guardians should claim their completed goals and available rewards before the event ends to avoid losing anything. You can do this with Eva in the Tower.
And for those who have already missed it in the collection: The glowing armors of the Solstice event 2023 will be transferred to the transmog feature with the start of Season 22 on August 22, as long as you earned them during the event.

Patch notes for maintenance 7.1.5.3 in Destiny 2
What’s in the patch notes? Bungie releases the list of all changes for maintenance 7.1.5.3 in the form of patch notes. However, these will only be available tonight and provide a complete overview of all resolved issues and improvements.
As soon as they are published, we will link them in this article, as changes might still occur afterward.
Even though the loot shooter is currently facing a lot of criticism: For Bungie, working on the Destiny services is a long-term project in which investments will continue beyond Season 23 and into the future. And from here, it’s only two weeks until Bungie shows its big showcase for “The Final Shape”.
However, the guardians seem to no longer want to listen:
