After all the shitstorms and blunders Bungie has committed in the past, Destiny fans currently have something to laugh about again. Of all companies, Sony is currently providing numerous laughs for the community surrounding Destiny 2 with a jab at the competition.
Sony is currently contributing to the amusement of Destiny fans with a measure that is understandable in itself. In the reveal video for the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2, the electronics giant abruptly censored an Xbox controller from competitor Microsoft.
Console war or not – Fans find it funny
The console war is likely familiar to many players. For some time now, the console gamers have been saying: Sony vs. Microsoft, PlayStation players against Xbox players. Both sides are convinced that their hardware and games are the clearly better choice and demonize the competition.
Even the console manufacturers themselves do not hesitate to take a jab whenever possible. A measure that is not unusual for Sony is currently causing great amusement among Destiny fans. Both PS4 Guardians and Xbox players are equally amused and even set aside the traditional console rivalry for once.
In the reveal video for the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2, Sony’s US representation showed their meticulous side and censored an Xbox controller from their biggest competitor Microsoft in the video on their official YouTube channel. And this happened even though the input device was only visible for one second.
In the original version of the Forsaken trailer, the controller is still visible normally.
A Reddit user quickly noticed this small jab, prompting him to share his discovery with other Destiny fans on Reddit. Since then, this censorship has caused all sorts of amusement among the Guardians. Although this move is legally and marketing-wise quite understandable, it does not stop the community from finding Sony’s petty attitude funny.
In connection with BioWare’s Anthem, Sony also contributed to general amusement. In a trailer for the game, Sony took matters into their own hands and amateurishly laid PlayStation buttons over the still visible Xbox button prompts using Photoshop.
