A strange puzzle is currently troubling Bungie: Those who have purchased the Ryzen 3000 CPU for their PC apparently cannot play Destiny. It simply does not start. Destiny 2 is the only game affected by this issue. Bungie says: We are looking into it.
What is the Ryzen CPU? The Ryzen 3000 from AMD is the long-awaited new CPU, the computational heart of a PC. It was released on July 7, and it is the first desktop processor based on 7nm technology.
The trade press stated: With the CPU, AMD has made “a significant leap forward.” The device is efficient and offers an excellent price-to-performance ratio.
The processor costs, according to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, between €200 and €530 depending on the variant. An affordable model is currently available on Amazon.

Destiny 2 simply does not start with the new CPU
This is the issue with Destiny 2: Some players who upgraded their PC with the Ryzen 3000 are now reporting that the online shooter does not load properly anymore.
According to PC Gamer, there have been no reports of Destiny 2 starting at all with the new CPU. Anyone who has upgraded seems to be suffering from this issue.
It is currently unclear what is causing the hiccup.
Bungie is aware of the issue and is investigating it
This is what players report:
- On reddit a player reports: He launches Destiny 2 via Battle.net. It is also stated that the game runs and Destiny 2 appears in the task manager, but has little CPU usage and simply does not start.
- A player says: He was able to solve his problems by switching back to the old processor from the new one. After that, everything worked smoothly.
- Otherwise, nothing seems to help: reinstalling Windows, driver updates, and the usual measures taken to fix errors appear to have no effect.
- Many players on reddit note that they actually planned to treat themselves to an upgrade for Destiny 2 – but are now skeptical.
Bungie states that they are aware of the problem and are investigating.

Are other games affected as well? At the moment, only Destiny 2 seems to be having issues with the new CPU. It is at least the only current game reported.
The incident seems to confirm the prejudices that players on PS4 and Xbox One often have about PC gaming.
It could also be that the Vex are behind this, rejecting the excessive computing power in the hands of the Guardians and sabotaging it. Who knows.
