On November 27, Season 5 of Destiny 2 begins. With its launch, the Gambit mode will receive some adjustments aimed at making it more appealing.
Recently, the creators of Destiny 2 revealed some information about the future of Gambit during a live stream for the Bungie Bounty. In the current “This Week at Bungie” blog, the studio has now announced more interesting details about the upcoming Gambit changes that players can look forward to when Season 5 begins.
These improvements are intended to make Gambit more appealing in Season 5
With the start of Season 5, several changes will be made to Gambit. Bungie designer Robbie Stevens has now presented them in the current TWaB blog. For this, community reactions and feedback have been closely examined. Based on this, the following adjustments will be made:
The Gambit bounties will be improved: Initially, the Infamy points for all bounties will be doubled. This way, you will rank up faster as you successfully complete these tasks.

Additionally, the requirements for numerous daily and weekly bounties as well as daily challenges have been revised. They are intended to take less time and be easier to complete in Season 5.
Furthermore, starting November 27, a completely new bounty will be added to the daily rotation. Currently, it is only known that this bounty will require kills of the Invader. More specific information has not yet been provided.
Infamy rewards will be improved: The ranking system in Gambit is called Infamy and consists of the following six tiers:
- Guardian
- Brave
- Heroic
- Famous
- Mythic
- Legendary

However, the ranks from Guardian to Mythic are split into three tiers per rank. The tiers should provide players with more short-term goals, including rewards that can be quickly achieved, instead of grinding for several weeks. However, the rewards have been anything but worthwhile until now.
Starting November 27, these tiered rank-ups are set to reward legendary Gambit weapons and armor pieces. According to Bungie, the time of blue items as rewards will then be over.
Ascendant Invader finally fixed: There is a nasty bug in Gambit that causes if you take down your Invader, the final boss of Gambit, first, the victory still credits to the opposing team. Although this issue has been addressed by the developers, it still occurred for some Guardians afterward.
This annoying phenomenon is expected to be a thing of the past with the start of Season 5. According to Bungie, the bug has now been definitively resolved so that it no longer ruins the fun for Guardians in Gambit.

Invader catch-up mechanic: In the Bungie Bounty stream, the studio has already hinted at revising this catch-up mechanic. In its current form, the system is anything but popular among Guardians. In the eyes of many fans, the mechanic gives the trailing team too much of an advantage.
With this system, both teams receive a buff when fighting the Invader. The size of the buff for the trailing team depends on how far they are behind. It is particularly easier for dedicated teams to win when trailing, by saving their power ammo and supers and invoking the final boss later.
The developers have now announced how the specific change will look: Teams that summon the Invader second can only receive one “catch-up” stack of the “Invader Slayer” buff. Previously, the trailing team received several stacks. The number of stacks depends on how far they were behind.
To provide an example: If the leading team received seven “Invader Slayer” stacks, then the trailing team received four. In Season 5, they will only receive one.

Pinnacle weapon for Gambit: During the Bungie Bounty on November 12, Bungie’s Senior Sandbox Designer revealed that there will be a dedicated pinnacle weapon for the Gambit mode in Season 5. So far, no further details have been provided.
However, it is highly likely that it will be a weapon comparable to Redrix’s Claymore, Luna’s Howl, or Not Forgotten. Because these top weapons from PvP have also been referred to as pinnacle weapons by the studio.
By the way: To appropriately celebrate the currently ongoing Season 4 in Gambit, there will soon be increased Infamy points:
- From 6 PM on November 20 to 6 PM on November 23, there will be double Infamy in Gambit
- From 6 PM on November 23 to 6 PM on November 27, you will receive triple Infamy points there
What do you think of this change list? Is it enough to make the mode more appealing to you? Or do you think further changes are necessary?
