As a new light in Destiny 2, it can be hard to figure out how to get exotics. The game world is large and overwhelming, and it’s easy to get lost in it. That’s why we show you all the ways to obtain exotics and what else you should know.
How to get exotic weapons? Destiny 2 offers you many options for obtaining exotics. We will show you all available sources and how to find them in detail:
- The Monument to Lost Lights – Next to the vaults in the Tower
- Exotic missions – Vox Obscura on Mars
- Lost sectors on Legend or Master difficulty
- Randomly or through quests from all raids
- Nightfall strikes
- Randomly from defeated enemies
- From Xur, the mysterious vendor who comes every Friday
- From the season pass
- During rank increases from vendors
- By completing activities like PvP matches or strikes
These are all the ways to obtain exotics. However, not all options are the best. Therefore, we will show you three ways to efficiently and effectively get the rare exotics.
The three best ways to get exotics
You can use all the methods we listed, but not all are suitable for efficiently obtaining many exotics. That’s why we will show you three of the best ways to get exotics:
Farming Nightfalls
What do I need to do in the strike playlist? A little challenging, but still rewarding are the Nightfall strikes. Simply select the Nightfalls as a team. Go to the strike tab on the map and select the Nightfalls there.
You now have the choice between four difficulty levels:
- Master – Rare chance to get exotics
- Hero – Average chance to get exotics
- Legend – Good chance to get exotics
- Grandmaster – Good chance to get exotics
- Nightfall – Good chance to get exotics
It is advisable to choose either the “Legend” difficulty or ideally “Grandmaster”, as the challenge is manageable and you also have high chances of getting an exotic. Now you need to farm the activity.
After each completion, start a new run with your team, collecting your exotics gradually. Additionally, you have chances at catalysts that improve your exotic weapons after completing the requirements.
Monument to Lost Lights
How does the monument work? A safe but costly way to obtain exotics is the Monument to Lost Lights next to the vaults in the Tower.
Once you arrive, you can choose from a whole range of 36 exotic weapons that can no longer be earned. However, you will need the necessary resources for a purchase. These are as follows:
- 150 – 200 Planetary Materials
- 100,000 Glimmer
- 1 Ascendant Shard
- 1 Exotic Cipher
Xur, the quirky black market vendor
What can I do with Xur? Xur offers three exotic armors, one weapon, and various legendary items every Friday to Tuesday until the weekly reset. The armors can be obtained for 23 legendary shards and the weapons for 29 shards. You can also purchase a random exotic engram for 97 shards, but only twice a week.
You can also additionally purchase a quest for an exotic cipher. If you complete the requirement, you will receive a cipher from Xur. With it, you can either shop in the Monument to Lost Lights or exchange it at Xur for a random exotic engram.
