Players can still obtain the most important checkpoints from all raids and dungeons in Destiny 2 for free and conveniently, thanks to a helpful Guardian. But that will soon come to an end. With the imminent demise of Google Stadia, this community service will also cease to exist. Now the Destiny community is desperately searching for solutions.
What will players soon have to do without? In the coming months, Destiny 2 will lose its probably most practical community service, which the streamer “Luckstruck9” provides free of charge for all players every week.
The Guardian, also known as the “Checkpoint Guy,” had the clever idea to share all the important end boss stages from all raids and dungeons with you, becoming a community hero.
His convenient free offer spared many Guardians from having to play through important core activities to the end boss and thus to the top loot every week. Not everyone had the chance to access all checkpoints. However, thanks to Luckstruck9, there was this option.
This is why the service is being discontinued: In order to provide this unique service, Luckstruck9 has a total of 11 Stadia accounts. But that is now the biggest problem because Google will officially and so far without replacement end its game streaming project Stadia in January 2023. If no replacement can be found, this will also be the death blow for the practical free checkpoints in Destiny 2.
What are checkpoints in Destiny 2?
Every raid and dungeon in Destiny 2 is divided into stages. Once you have mastered a stage, you reach what is known as a “checkpoint.” This checkpoint is a save point that remains if you choose to exit the raid or dungeon.
Thanks to the save point at the checkpoint, Guardians have the chance to resume from where they left off after exiting, but only until the weekly reset has occurred.
These checkpoints can also be easily shared. You just need to join someone who has already played to the end boss and die there once. Once the encounter restarts, the character inherits this save point.

The community is already searching for solutions: On Twitter, Luckstruck9 already announced that he can still offer the free service through his Discord server until January 18, 2023. But how things will continue after that is uncertain. Especially since Google Stadia was the best solution in terms of power consumption as well as the necessary resources.
Until then, he wants to find new methods, with the help of the community, to continue providing the checkpoint service.
These options are currently available:
- One suggestion would be Nvidia GeForce Now’s cloud. However, the problem here is that the free version only allows a one-hour session, and the premium version is also limited to six hours.
- The second option would be a high-end PC or server with virtual machines to handle the many gaming instances. However, as the checkpoint guy pointed out, the biggest obstacles are the procurement of hardware, setup, and high maintenance costs. Players also pointed out that this VM option could technically lead to a ban by Bungie.
- The ideal solution would be, as Luckstruck9 emphasizes, probably a collaborative community effort where many players keep the service alive through AFK accounts.
This is how Luckstruck9 explains via Twitter:
Community-based checkpoints are one of the simplest solutions, provided that people can familiarize themselves with the system. Currently, my Discord bot allows people to show with /AddAFKAccount that they have set their account AFK in a checkpoint that others can grab.

What about you? Have you already used Luckstruck9’s free offer? Or do you prefer to reach the end boss on your own and therefore wouldn’t use such an offer? Feel free to share your opinion on how sensible you think the survival of this convenience feature in Destiny 2 is and whether you would support it yourself.
Currently, there is still a challenge in the “King’s Fall” raid that can easily and quickly grant you some extra loot:
