In Destiny 2, Bungie is working on changes to the guide games and social features. Additionally, new Nightfall content is expected.
M.E. Chung and Steve Dolan are social designers at Bungie who are responsible for the social features in Destiny 2. Since the launch of the MMO shooter, there has been a lot of feedback and criticism regarding some of these features, such as the guide games, the in-game chat, or the emotes. Now, the designers share what Bungie is currently working on.
Guided Games are being adjusted
The guide games represent a new form of matchmaking where solo players can team up with clans to participate in the raid or the nightfall strike.
According to Chung, Bungie is pleased with the guide games, as they have already allowed many new players to engage in these endgame activities. However, the team is also aware of the problems that the guided games still face: connection issues lead to unintended guardian oath breaks, and there are few incentives to act as guides. Additionally, a guide games option for the Trials of the Nine is still lacking. In the future, this is something to likely anticipate.
These changes to the guide games will already come with “Curse of Osiris” on December 5:
- An audio signal will be added to indicate when a guide game has been found. Currently, many guardians miss the opportunity to join as they are preoccupied with something else during the lengthy search.
- Full clans can also be guides.
- There will be notifications that if you decline a clan, you will be reinserted at the front of the queue rather than being pushed to the end. The time until a new clan is displayed will then be significantly shorter.
- And: Guide games will support the new Nightfall content and the new raid content from Curse of Osiris.
New Nightfall strike content mentioned
It has already been revealed that this expansion will introduce a new raid activity. However, there have been no details on how the nightfall strike will change. Now we know: Yes, there will be new Nightfall strike content.
How this will look is not yet known. It is possible that the time limit modifiers will be replaced by other modifiers. More information will be available in the first live stream this Wednesday evening.
More information on social features:
- A in-game clan chat is a high priority – this will be released as soon as possible.
- A chat room for social spaces like the Tower is also on the agenda, but it has a lower priority.
- An emote wheel is coming, allowing you to equip multiple emotes, enabling you to chain your favorite moves together.
