, they are changing how content is released again.
What are the episodes about? After the large DLC in 2024, The Final Shape, Bungie is shifting away from large add-ons for Destiny 2 and focusing on episodes. These are longer seasons divided into acts. They serve as an epilogue that not only includes new story content but also activities.
In the episode: Revenant, all story content of an act was released right at launch instead of weekly. However, for the upcoming episode, they want to adjust the structure again and try a hybrid approach.
Destiny 2 is adopting a hybrid structure with the upcoming episode
What is changing? In a new blog post on the Bungie website, the new content release strategy for the upcoming season was announced. Instead of releasing everything at the start of an act, they now want to adopt a hybrid structure.
They want to find a balance between pushing everything out on the first day of an act compared to meaningful reasons to log in throughout the episode
. The majority of the activities will still be brought on the release of an act, but these contents will be developed further with the weekly story.
In addition, there will be a seasonal challenge each week, for which players will receive a seasonal weapon. Instead of releasing all weapons of an episode at once, half of the episodic weapons will be released with Act 2.
The length of the acts should also no longer be fixed at 5 to 6 weeks. Act 2 is expected to last 3 weeks, according to the blog post.
When will Episode: Heretics be released? Episode: Heretics is set to release on February 4, 2025. Like previous episodes, there will be 3 acts this time as well. Since they want to vary the length of the acts, it is unclear in what cycle they will appear.
