Just before the big showcase in Destiny 2, the rumor mill is buzzing, as Bungie has officially revealed nothing yet. However, the curiosity of the players is currently fueled by a few leaks that are not so unlikely. MeinMMO tells you which of them have the most potential to be true and what Bungie itself has likely leaked regarding the future of Destiny 2.
What is happening in Destiny 2 right now? The tension is currently rising, as Bungie has planned a major showcase for tomorrow, August 23. There, they aim to give the players a first glimpse of the future.
- Among other things, the new Legacy Raid for Season 18 is to be presented.
- There will be first impressions of Arc 3.0, the new Arc ability.
- The name of Season 18 will be revealed, as well as the corresponding season trailer.
- And perhaps Bungie will also give a small taste of the upcoming future by briefly teasing the new expansion “Lightfall”.
However, alongside these official announcements, some theories and leaks from the Destiny community regarding this secret future are already circulating. Some of them Bungie has even hidden in Destiny 2 itself.

Rumor No. 1: The Name of Season 18
In Destiny 2, the name of a season can reveal a lot. So Bungie keeps it under wraps until the last moment. However, there are data miners who dig deep into Bungie’s code to discover the first secret information.
One of the most well-known in the Destiny 2 community is certainly Ginsor. He has not only published several leaks himself but also pointed others in the right direction, like Josh Hunt.
On August 20, Hunt published an overview on his Twitter account, which supposedly also contains the name of the new Season 18.
He also states that he believes the information is quite reliable and adds: “Nothing is 100 % true until Bungie announces it officially. However, this came (accidentally) from Bungie, so I’m quite confident.“
According to his publication, the new Season 18 in Destiny 2 would be called “Season of the Plunder”. In German, it might mean “Saison der Plünderung” or “Saison der Plünderer”.
Moreover, he mentions story content, such as a Ketch crash, and even the new seasonal activities that are supposedly called “Expedition” and “Hideouts”.
Leak also shows release hints: In his post, one also discovers the name “Nebula”. This is likely the codename for the new Lightfall expansion within Bungie, which could indicate further announcements about it.
By the way, Ginsor said: “Lightfall looks like a mix of Mass Effect and Cyberpunk“. If this is true, then Bungie’s latest expansion in 2023 could cause quite a stir among interested Guardians, just like Witch Queen did.
Rumor No. 2: Fortnite and Destiny 2 Cooperation
For Season 18, Guardians are not only curious about the story content. The new armor and cosmetics are interesting as well.
When three skins from Season 18 that resemble Fortnite leaked over the weekend, it caused a big stir. Is a crossover between Destiny 2 and Fortnite really happening? If you believe Ginsor, then definitely.
The new skins for the Eververse in Destiny 2 would thus be based on skins from the battle royale shooter Fortnite. And the similarity cannot be denied.
However, it is unclear whether this means only a visual or also a content collaboration. In any case, it seems like Bungie has raided Fortnite’s closets for Season 18. The community is already enjoying the designs of these alleged armor ornaments. So writes seZynikaEDM on Twitter:

Rumor No. 3: An Exo Mission Predicts the Future
Players of Destiny 2 often find themselves pondering while gaming. Especially when Bungie hides cryptic hints in its lore or in a special activity about the future of Destiny 2. One Exo mission, due to its predictions, is particularly hotly discussed by the community.
Which mission is it? The exotic mission “Vox Obscura” is one of the many weapon quests in Destiny 2. In it, Guardians earn the Exo grenade launcher “Dead Messenger” and investigate a conspiracy of Calus with the Psions.
The mission builds up from week to week. This means you can play it multiple times, but the voicelines change.
That’s why it’s worth listening closely: Because of these different dialogues, players can discover something new each week. Usually, there are 5-7 different, slightly varying voicelines from the involved characters.
This not only reduces the boredom factor when grinding but has now also caused some discussions. Because Bungie has obviously predicted the future of Destiny 2 itself in “Vox Obscura”.
What has the mission predicted for the Guardians? At the end, when the final voiceline occurs, the mission reveals several predictions from the Cabal Psions. The first one, “The reborn Leviathan returns.”, has already come true.
In Season 17, the Guardians actually encountered Calus, and the now-abandoned Leviathan parked, infested with Egregore spores, behind the Moon. It ended in a dungeon showdown between Caiatl and her father Calus.
However, the following three ominous predictions have not yet come true:
- Prediction 2: The Shipstealer will be resurrected.
- Prediction 3: A besieged city.
- Prediction 4: A traveler infected by darkness.
In Prediction number 2, it is strongly suspected that the Shipstealer refers to Eramis, the main antagonist from “Beyond Light”. And she is known to be not dead. She was merely frozen on Europa, and her Fallen house scattered to the winds – left without leadership.
Considering name leaks for Season 18, this may hint at plundering Fallen. Additionally, a hint from Josh Hunt also mentioned a “Ketch crash callout”.
Whatever awaits us in Season 18, if the currently frozen Eramis plays a role in it, she will either be on the side of the Guardians or on the side of darkness.
Bungie fueled this rumor, by the way, with a recently released short video that asked: “…who will break the ice?“
- This suggests either that the Guardians must free Eramis from her ice prison.
- That the once-legendary sniper “Icebreaker” returns to the game in Season 18.
- Or nothing at all, which wouldn’t be very exciting.
And the remaining predictions? Vox Obscura also predicts “a besieged city” and this is particularly interesting because Destiny 2 is shortly before the upcoming Lightfall expansion.
We know that darkness is on its way to us. The Witness stated at the end of the “The Witch Queen” DLC that the game is now over and the “Children of Sol” have suffered enough.
It is almost clear that the Witness wants the Traveler. And this could indeed mean that the last refuge of humanity could fall into a state of siege by the pyramid ships. It would be grand and fatal at the same time.
Rumor No. 4: A telling image that needs no words
In Season 18, an old raid from Destiny 2 will return again. And the potentially strongest candidate to make a comeback is currently “King’s Fall”.
And indeed, some leakers have already committed to the return of the great Oryx. Ginsor posted an image on August 20 with a chess piece that actually needs no further words.

Rumor No. 5: No more tedious grind
The last leak talks about the elimination of the tedious power level grind in Destiny 2. Something many players would welcome. Relaxed leveling for Destiny 2, which would make it independent of RNG-based top loot.
That it might happen, was hinted at by Destiny Leaks via Twitter. It is said that Bungie has allegedly been considering changing the current system since Season 14. It would then be another step away from the hard grind.
- Players could play what they want through these changes and would earn experience points for every activity, which would increase their power level.
- To reach the necessary cap for endgame activities like the pinnacle, Bungie could grant Guardians more experience points in harder difficulty levels.
- The return of the “Five of Swords” card could further increase the XP gain by providing players with more experience points for more negative modifiers.
