The TV series based on Defiance was cancelled after the 3rd season, but there is still no end in sight for the game.
The series dies, the game continues
The MMO Defiance has always been a bit of an oddball, as the game is based in the same world as the eponymous TV series, sharing the setting and much of the storyline. The series was – to the dismay of its fans – cancelled after the third season, which puts the corresponding PC game in a somewhat precarious situation.
The developers do not really see this as a problem, as they state: “The game continues to progress and we will also update the story. Although the game and the series are set in the same universe, we are independent in San Francisco, while the series takes place in St. Louis. We will continue to address the lore that we share, in case the TV series is ever continued.”
Defiance recently received a new update and is approaching its 3rd anniversary. “Dark Metamorphosis” expands the game with numerous new missions, new storylines, and thus carries the torch on behalf of the series.
