The Free2Play shooter Defiance, a Free2Play alternative to Destiny that also works on PC, will receive a new DLC called “Alcatraz” on April 14.
Several months ago Trion Worlds CEO Scott Hartsmann was still exulting over how much Defiance benefits from Destiny giving such a boost to the MMO shooter genre. That Defiance is available on PC, but Destiny is not (yet) must have particularly pleased Hartsman.
Defiance is a Free2Play MMO shooter available on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. On April 14, the new update “Alcatraz” arrives. However, the decommissioned prison has nothing of a tourist attraction in the Bay of San Francisco. It does not look like a place for relaxation at all.
Alcatratz brings to Defiance with the expeditions a kind of “conveyor belt” endcontent for 4 players in co-op mode. What is known in other games as the “Horde mode.” New waves will continue to come until the players fall or until there are no more.
Additionally, there are new rewards to be plundered with Cyber rigs. These are implants operated with cyber chips that increase the effectiveness of the Ark hunters.
My MMO says: Defiance certainly plays in a lower league than Destiny and has a different approach. However, for PC players who are eagerly peeking at Destiny, it currently seems to be one of the best alternatives in the MMO genre. The aesthetics and setting remind of Borderlands, but without the total over-the-top vibe.
