Dead by Daylight turns up the heat. In the new “Dungeons & Dragons” chapter, there is magic, enchanting items, and even a cute elf bard.
Dead by Daylight is currently hosting the stream for the 8th anniversary of the game. There was already a teaser for the new chapter “Dungeons & Dragons” beforehand. Now the developers have finally revealed details – and quite a lot of them.
The new chapter not only brings the nasty lich Vecna as a killer but also magical items, spells, and even dice into the game. We have all the known details for you.
The abilities of Vecna, the new killer
Vecna is a lich and therefore a master of magic. He has brought four of his spells into the world of Dead by Daylight, which he can use in the form of abilities during the match to hunt survivors and block their abilities.
- Flight: Vecna dashes through the air for a moment and skips obstacles in his way.
- Flight of the Damned: Vecna hurls a series of spectral skulls ahead, which fly over obstacles and damage all affected survivors.
- Hand of the Magician: Vecna creates a fantastic hand that performs tasks for him, such as destroying pallets.
- Sphere of Banishment: Vecna summons a large sphere that reveals survivors and disables their magical items.
Like all killers, Vecna also has three unique perks:
- Woven Tuning: When an item is consumed for the first time, survivors drop it. The aura of the item will be shown to you, just like the aura of all survivors within a radius of 8 meters. When survivors pick up an item, they will be afflicted with
Oblivious
for 20 / 25 / 30 seconds. - Dark Arrogance: Permanently increases the duration of pallet stuns and killer blinds by 25%. In exchange, the killer permanently receives + 16% / 18% / 20% faster speed when vaulting windows (Vault-Speed).
- Languid Touch: When a survivor disturbs a crow within a radius of 36 meters around you, the survivor suffers from the
Exhausted
status for 6 / 8 / 10 seconds.
Magical items add extra spice
You read that right. When Vecna is the killer, a total of 7 chests appear on the map that can be looted by survivors. Each time you open such a chest, a 20-sided die is rolled (“W20”). Depending on the result, different things happen:
- 2-3: You get a common item (like a medkit or toolbox).
- 4-19: You receive magical boots or armguards that are automatically equipped. They can block various spells from Vecna.
- 20: You receive one of two extremely powerful items:
- Vecna’s Eye allows you to become briefly invisible after leaving a locker.
- Vecna’s Hand allows you to teleport from one locker to another.
- However, using these items comes at a price and wounds the user.
What happens on a rolled 1, meaning a critical failure, is still unclear. However, it is suspected that the chest then becomes a greedy mimic and devours the survivor.
What the new survivor Aestri Yazar can do
The new survivor is the elven bard Aestri Yazar. She comes in two variants and can also be played as the human bard Baermar Uraz with a different skin.
Like all survivors, Aestri and Baermar come with their own unique perks that venture a bit into the realm of magic and pen & paper. Their perks are:
- Mirror Illusion: You create a static copy of a survivor at a totem, chest, generator, or exit gate for a limited time.
- Bard’s Inspiration: You roll a die. Depending on the number rolled, the other survivors receive a buff to their skill checks.
- Silent Sight: If the survivor remains still for a few moments, they can temporarily see the auras of all generators, totems, and chests nearby.
When does the chapter go live? The release of the chapter is planned for June 3, 2024. Until then, you can already test the new content on PC by downloading the PTB (“Public Test Build”). You can then try out both the killer, the new map, as well as the magical items and the survivors.
