DayZ is making progress now and plans for 2018 to be THE year for DayZ. They aim to cater to a different audience than PUBG and Fortnite.
The developers of DayZ have big plans for 2018. According to their estimates, this year is set to be extremely important for the survival game. However, they do not intend to be direct competitors to PUBG or Fortnite, but rather to target a very specific audience. The Lead Producer from developer Bohemia Interactive explains what changes are ahead.
New Engine for DayZ in a few weeks
Eugen Harton is the Lead Producer at the DayZ developer Bohemia Interactive. He announces: “in a few weeks” DayZ will relaunch with a new engine. Speaking to PCGamesN, Harton said:
“We will release DayZ in a few weeks on a new engine for PC and it is coming this year to Game Preview on Xbox. That is our goal. I would almost say it’s a reboot for DayZ on PC.”
However, whether this is about the long-awaited launch, after the game has been in Early Access for more than 4 years, Harton did not disclose. Recently, it was heard that they were planning the release of version 1.0 for this year.
DayZ is not afraid of competition like PUBG or Fortnite, serves a different niche
A few years ago, DayZ was still the hit and booming in the gaming scene. It was something new, but then fell behind against titles like H1Z1, PUBG, and later Fortnite.
Harton is not worried about the competition, as “the hardcore simulation we are working on does not compare to PUBG or Fortnite.”
He explains that Fortnite is particularly interesting for children and PUBG caters to competitive players: “I believe we have different customers. I am pretty sure of that.” What he wishes for are old school streamers who may have started with DayZ and would present the relaunch version of the game to a new audience. “It may not be mainstream, but our customers are not that either. I am satisfied with that. I know what game I am working on – I do not want to appeal to everyone with it.
However, they want to reach console players, that is part of the plan. “I still believe we have not yet reached our best performance. This year will be the year of DayZ!”
