Summer 2026 is the perfect time to grind one of the best loot shooters of the past decade

Dariusz The Division 2

Welcome to the MeinMMO format “What we’re playing this weekend”. We tell you what we’re playing during the days off and why you should keep this game in mind right now. In this edition, you’ll find out why MeinMMO editor Dariusz is really excited about The Division 2.

This is what I’m focused on this weekend: Looting and leveling. Most of the time, I play competitive PvP shooters. In summer, when the sun is blazing and the gaming room turns into an oven, I don’t want to compete with other players to break a sweat. On hot days, I prefer PvE games, and so I’ve planned to grind The Division 2 for the first weekend of June.

Since the realism mode was playable in March, I’ve been really excited about the loot shooter again – and have an incredible amount of content to catch up on before the latest expansion arrives in 2026.

Who is writing here? Dariusz is the shooter expert at MeinMMO. He plays just about every game released in the genre and has thousands of hours in titles like Rainbow Six: Siege, Battlefield, Valorant, Overwatch, and in PvE games like Destiny, Outriders, or Helldivers 2.

He spent his first hours in The Division already in the closed beta of the first part, when the agents were still fighting in snowy New York. With the release of the sequel, Dariusz also went to Washington, but in his absence, the game received a number of contents that he can now grind diligently.

I played The Division 2 regularly on PlayStation 4 for nearly 1.5 years at release and then took a long break when I switched to PC in December 2020. It wasn’t until May 2025 that I bought the shooter on Steam and started over. By that time, I already knew what build I wanted to create and what activities I had to farm for it. However, the second half of 2025 was so packed with new games that I just couldn’t get to the hefty grind I had planned.

  • Borderlands 4,
  • Battlefield 6,
  • ARC Raiders.

Other games ate up my time, and 2026 went similarly. Bungie’s Marathon surprised me with how much fun it was, then I got hooked on the big update of Gray Zone Warfare, and suddenly Conan Exiles was practically a new game dressed in Unreal Engine 5. Forza Horizon 6 was also on the horizon.

It’s now June, we’ve already had the first truly sunny days, and I finally have time to indulge the craving that rekindled with the realism mode and play The Division 2.

Ubisoft shows the new DLC of The Division 2 in the trailer

A Loot Shooter with Lots of Content – and the new DLC is still to come

What kind of game is this? The Division 2 is a loot shooter in the third-person perspective, where the gameplay primarily revolves around the cover mechanic. As Division agents, you accept a mission and dive into the fight. Once you arrive at the location, you often encounter the same gameplay loop: You enter a room with enemies, seek cover, plan your attack, and initiate combat with your foes.

As you progress through the game, you will become stronger. You improve your stats, collect stronger weapons and gear pieces, and build a loadout that matches your individual playstyle. Alternatively, you can farm the current meta builds to easily master the endgame.

In the endgame, a variety of game modes await you. There’s the Dark Zone, where you can fight against bots and other players like in an extraction shooter, but lose your loot if you are killed before extraction. Raids, seasonal content like manhunts, events, and modes like “Countdown,” “The Summit,” or the roguelike mode “Descent” challenge your skills for a chance at rewarding loot.

There’s really an immense amount to do in The Division 2, and the latest expansion, which will also bring new content, is still to come.

Our recommendation: Currently, The Division 2 is once again reduced at various retailers and some of the DLCs are also on offer. So it’s a good time to start with the game or catch up on missed content.

  • On Steam and Xbox it costs only €7.49 (75% off) until June 8
  • The price in the PlayStation Store is currently at the usual €29.99, but it is also included in the “PlayStation Plus Extra” subscription
  • The shooter is currently available for €7.50 in the Ubisoft Store
  • It is also included in the Game Pass and Ubisoft+ subscription

If you already use one of the subscriptions, you could try out the loot shooter without having to buy it directly.

We may still have to wait for the release of The Division 3. In April, however, the developers gave a sign of life and made it clear that the game is still in development: What’s up with The Division 3? Leading Ubisoft developers break the silence, stating that the team is in a “really great position”
