During the Game Awards 2024, the developers of Crimson Desert released the next spectacularly staged trailer for the open-world role-playing game. They also revealed when the game is supposed to be released.
What does the new trailer show? First the most important thing: At the end of the trailer from the Game Awards 2024, the developers announced that Crimson Desert is set to be released in late 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Steam, and Mac. Moreover, the nearly 100 seconds reveal what you can expect in the new open-world adventure from the studio behind Black Desert:
- The vast, open-designed world of Pywel, which you can explore on foot or with a mount. The trailer even includes scenes where you sit on the back of a flying dragon and fight.
- You can expect action-packed, bloody battles against groups of enemies and powerful bosses. There will also be epic, large-scale battles.
- By acquiring new weapons and armor and unlocking skills, you will prepare for increasingly difficult challenges.
- Apart from fighting, activities like climbing, gliding, fishing, or cooking await you. There are also supposed to be puzzles. Previous trailers have already shown hot air balloon rides, flute playing, arm wrestling, and taming mounts.

Concerns about release date
On the subreddit r/CrimsonDesert, the mood after the trailer could be better. In a thread, fans are discussing the announced release window. Some wished for a specific date, while others do not believe that Pearl Abyss will make it in 2025. Players are also concerned that Crimson Desert will share the spotlight with GTA 6 if there are further delays.
Why is Crimson Desert so exciting? The project first hinted at in August 2017 and officially presented in November 2019 by Pearl Abyss has caught the attention of the MeinMMO editorial team early on, not only because of its sleek graphics and dynamic battles.
Pearl Abyss has specifically made a name for itself with Black Desert, which has many fans due to its impactful combat feel and beautiful game world. Crimson Desert was originally supposed to be an MMORPG as well, relying on comparable strengths.
Over the course of development, however, the developers stated that Crimson Desert would not be an MMORPG, but would place a strong focus on the single-player campaign in a vast, open world, with optional multiplayer content, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 or the GTA series.
The setting and characters strongly reminded of Game of Thrones with their Western presentation. The main character resembled Jon Snow. So now you can also ride dragons, like the Targaryens.
