Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has elevated the tactical shooter to a new level, but many fans are still thirsting for the old version from days gone by. A mod was supposed to change that, but Steam said no.
What kind of mod is this? The mod “Counter-Strike: Classic Offensive” was intended to bring the nostalgic time from version 1.6 into the new engine of Global Offensive – this included the return of old weapons, sound effects, and more. The development of the mod took 8 years, which, according to the developers, was supposed to be released on March 12, 2025.
Everything seemed ready for a clean launch, and although the developers were given the green light for the development, disappointment struck just before release – the mod is not allowed to be published.
Steam rejected the release, developer explains why
What was the reason for the ban? When the report from Steam regarding the rejection came on January 11, many fans were disappointed and the developers were puzzled. According to them, “Counter-Strike: Classic Offensive” adhered to Steam’s regulations and even spoke with official developers from Valve, but they were still rejected.
The modders wanted an answer and tried to reach Valve. On March 12, there was a new statement regarding the incident, and it brings some hope. The following can be heard:
Dear Counter-Strike Community.
We were contacted by Valve this morning. They reached out to us because they are concerned that our mod may no longer be compliant with their rules and the Steam Subscriber Agreement. In light of these concerns, we are reviewing the current build of the mod to ensure that nothing in it violates these guidelines. We thank you for your patience and support.
Sincerely,

Will the mod still be released? So far, there have been no new updates regarding an upcoming release since the last statement from the Offensive Team. It is also unknown how extensive the upcoming changes might be.
Depending on the situation, this could take several days, and even then it is unclear whether the mod will be allowed to be released or will be prevented from being released again.
