Those who like to operate at long distances in Call of Duty: Warzone either go for a sniper rifle or a DMR. If sniper rifles feel too sluggish to you, before the Season 6 of Modern Warfare, the only option was to grab the powerful Kar 98k.

What are the key stats of the weapons? To be able to compare the stats, we first show you the individual stats without attachments (except the reload time of the Kar 98k, which is significantly increased due to a large scope). Further down, you will find setups that can upgrade the weapons for you, along with the appropriate improvements and advantages and disadvantages compared to the competitor.

The small but significant differences are amplified when you equip the weapons with different attachments. In general, however, it can be said that with the SP-R, you can reload faster, while the Kar 98k is quicker to aim.
In any case, the weapons are now much closer together than at the introduction of the SP-R 208. The rifle was practically a hitscan weapon and absolutely OP at launch.
SP-R 208 setup for your sniper hunt

What does this setup bring? With this attachment combo, you get a rapid-firing sniper rifle with high range and penetration power.
The barrel and silencer together increase the damage range by 36%, allowing you to achieve over 150 damage with chest hits even at a distance of 72 meters. Thus, you can take down enemies with just one hit even without a headshot if they have only one armor plate. The two attachments also increase the bullet speed from 524 to 844 m/s. The large scope helps you land hits over long distances, but slows down your aim down sights time.
With the bolt mechanism, the SP-R significantly distinguishes itself from the Kar 98k. You increase your rate of fire from 59 to 71 RPM and have noticeably increased bullet throughput.
The tactical laser assists you in aiming and reduces the ADS time, which suffers from the barrel, silencer, and optic. With this setup, you can aim down sights in 478 ms.
What else could I try? If you don’t mind the rapid fire, try the magazine attachment “.300 Norma Mag 5-R Magazines.” This raises your range by another 10% and increases bullet speed by nearly 25%, to over 1,000 meters per second.
Advantages & disadvantages compared to the Kar 98k
Kar 98k setup for your distance kills

What does this setup bring? The barrel and silencer increase the range by exactly 50%, allowing you to deal 154 chest damage up to approximately 90 meters. With this setup, the Kar reaches a bullet speed of 914 meters per second, which is just over that of the SP-R.
The scope gives you 7x magnification, just like the SP-R. Still, there are differences between the scopes. Because although the zoom remains the same, the SP-R’s optic covers more of the screen, allowing you to better recognize what is happening around your crosshair. This makes the SP-R scope somewhat superior.
There’s also a special feature of the Kar 98k in conjunction with a large scope. When you attach it to the weapon, the reload changes. Instead of a magazine that you can quickly swap out, you have to load each shot individually into the weapon. Accordingly, the reload time increases to a lengthy 4.2 seconds for 5 rounds. To counter this, the perk “Sleight of Hand” helps, which reduces the time to reload 5 rounds to 3.6 seconds.
The tactical laser again helps you bring the reduced aim down sights speed to a competitive level. With this setup, the Kar 98k has an ADS time of 412 milliseconds, which is about 15% faster than the SP-R’s value.
What else could I try? If you can cope with the slow reload, you can increase your aim down sights speed with the “FTAC Sport Comp.” This attachment saves you another 25 milliseconds, bringing your ADS time to 369 ms.

Which DMR suits you and when larger snipers are better
So which DMR should I go for? The differences in range and bullet speed are hardly noticeable between these two. However, a few differences can certainly be noted:
- SP-R 208 offers a higher rate of fire with a faster reload
- The Kar 98k offers you a comfortable ADS speed and slightly more aim stability
While the SP-R gives it gas with its bullet firing, it feels somewhat sluggish compared to the World War II weapon Kar 98k. Additionally, there is generally a somewhat better aim stability with the Kar. Players who use a DMR in Warzone, however, tend to pay less attention to high stability. They rely on their own aim skills and expect a high ADS speed for that.
This can make a lot of difference in the gaming experience, and ultimately the choice depends on your preferences. You must decide: Would you rather fire quickly (SP-R 208) or prefer a better aiming time (Kar 98k).
When is a true sniper rifle better for me? If you have no significant experience in sniping, start with the larger rifles HDR or AX-50. With these, you may move slower, but you benefit from high bullet speeds and unmatched aim stability at range.
The DMRs are usually more for experienced snipers in Warzone who already have a good feel for headshots and chest hits. Because if you can’t always land these hits, DMRs do very little damage and lose a lot of effectiveness. If you want to try your hand at sniping, here are tips for your technique and weapon choice:
