With the Gulag, Call of Duty: Warzone introduced an exciting respawn mechanic into the Battle Royale, giving you one chance in a match to make up for a death. Winning the direct duel can be very satisfying, and a loss can be correspondingly frustrating.

What happened? A player posted a clip on reddit showing that a victory in the Gulag is not always enough to defeat your opponent:
In the Gulag, the player was completely outmatched. He was almost at his spawn with his “Desert Eagle Akimbo” setup, waiting for his enemy to come around the corner. However, his first salvo went completely off target, and the Akimbo Deagles of his opponent clearly wanted the victory more.
His teammates were already ready to buy the fallen soldier back into the match. However, the victorious Gulag opponent was not at all prepared for a second round. While the Gulag winner was probably still scouting the map for a good landing spot, his victim sailed closer to him and took him down from the air with the pistol. A strong revenge move, and since the opponent had no living teammates left, it is quite possible that the match was completely over for him.
What do players say about it? The reddit thread collected nearly 1,500 upvotes in just one day (as of March 18) and receives a lot of support in the comments:

Nuketown Gulag Offers Less Tactical Variety Than Before

Small Tactic Guide to the Nuketown Gulag
With Season 2, there were adjustments made in the Nuketown Gulag to make the duel fairer. Many players found the auto cover on one side to be too strong.
Truck Side Path: Stay to the right by the truck, move forward quickly, and look through the gap in the container to see if the enemy is heading towards the cover on the right. Aim directly through the container, and if you are fast enough, you can shoot your enemy first and have the advantage in this round.
If you do not see the enemy running there, you can already tell which way the opponent is taking. Turn around and run more through the middle. “Peek” around the corner towards the enemy spawn. If you do not spot the enemy here either, your opponent will likely be taking the left path along the bus. Quickly find some cover and be ready to open fire.
Shield Side Path: To your right, you have a shield. Run past it and position yourself on the narrow side of the bus. Here you are safe from quick attacks and can look through the truck container on the other side. If the enemy does not cross the left side from your view, they will either come through the middle or take the long way behind the bus.
This position also allows you to quickly check the other lanes. Take a step forward and look to the right: overview of the middle. Turn around and look to the left: you have the entire lane on the right in view.
Use the sight through the container on both sides to your advantage. Depending on whether you detect enemies there or not, plan your further approach. To gain an advantage, you should move slowly and listen to the enemies’ footsteps.
If you are more of a rusher, then first peek from both sides through the middle and then take the long route over the opposite side if you cannot directly take out your enemy. The Nuketown Gulag offers few opportunities to provide you with real advantages in a firefight. Be careful when running around corners and keep your sights ready – then you have the best chances.
A victory in the Gulag brings you back into the match and saves cash and nerves. If you take out your enemy, you even earn a kill for your kill count.
