If you’re tired of shotguns and pistols in the Gulag of Call of Duty: Warzone, or if these weapons just don’t suit you, you can probably breathe a sigh of relief soon.
Where do the infos come from? In an interview with GameSpot, Amos Hodge, the lead designer at Raven Software, shared a bit about the origins of the Gulags in CoD: Warzone. A detail was mentioned that will surely please some Warzone players.
This is set to change in the Gulag soon: It was confirmed that new weapons will soon be available for the short but intense 1v1 duels in the underground prison area.
The developers want to bring fresh air into the Gulag, and the pool of starter weapons is set to vary with future updates. However, the arsenal available in the Gulag will apparently not be expanded. It should always remain manageable so that players can get used to the weapons and “learn” them. However, it will likely change at certain intervals.
By the way, if you’re looking for good weapons outside of the Gulag, check this out:
- Awesome solo setup makes the M4A1 even stronger at any range

- 3 underrated weapons you definitely should try
When are the changes expected? The developers have not communicated a specific timing. However, it is conceivable that these changes will come with the big seasonal update for the upcoming Season 4.
What is the problem with the current weapon selection? The weapon selection in the Gulag is very limited, consisting only of a few shotguns and pistols – and this has been the case since the release of the battle royale mode.
For many players, this has become too boring; they wish for a bit more variety. Furthermore, these weapon classes are not among the most popular in CoD Warzone. Consequently, not everyone can handle them well and therefore ends up on the losing side.
What is the Gulag anyway? The Gulag is a unique feature of Warzone – a kind of mini-game that takes place on a compact map within the prison complex of Verdansk.
Players who are eliminated during a Warzone match end up in the Gulag. There they fight against other eliminated players for a second chance, meaning a respawn. The winner can re-enter the ongoing match (only up to a certain progress in the match), while the loser is eliminated from the game.
