Weeks ago, the developers announced that they wanted to freshen up the gameplay in the Gulag of Call of Duty: Warzone. With the new update 1.21, it was finally time, but somewhat different than originally planned. MeinMMO shows you what has changed.
This was the plan: In an interview with GameSpot, Amos Hodge, the Lead Designer of Raven Software, announced some time ago that they wanted to bring a little more variety to the Gulag experience in Warzone.
The Chief Developer did not mention a specific date at that time, but with the major and eagerly anticipated Mid-Season Update 1.21 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and CoD: Warzone on May 19, it was finally time.
Here’s what has changed with update 1.21 in the Gulag of CoD: Warzone: In the Gulag, there are now finally more weapons available than just the previous shotguns and pistols. Henceforth, popular assault rifles and submachine guns enrich the arsenal for the intense 1vs1 duels in the underground prison section. Included are for example
- the AK-47
- the M13 assault rifle
- the Kilo-141 carbine,
- the powerful RAM-7
- or the often underestimated “Striker 45” SMG
And that should please many players. After all, many had wished for just that for a long time. Having to use nothing but pistols and shotguns got boring for many players over time.
Moreover, pistols and shotguns are not necessarily among the most popular weapon types in CoD Warzone, and not everyone handles them well. The broader selection of weapons could now ensure that players who previously struggled with the limited weapon choices could emerge as winners from the Gulag.
Why different than originally planned? Actually, the weapon selection in the Gulag was supposed to rotate and not be greatly expanded – at least that was the developers’ statement.
While the weapon pool should vary, it was meant to remain clear so that players could get used to and “learn” the weapons.
But the arsenal has now grown with the new update. New weapon types and examples have come along, but shotguns and pistols can still be played. Currently, the weapon pool has indeed expanded. Whether that will remain the case or change in the near future is not yet known.
What is the Gulag anyway? The Gulag is a kind of mini-game within the game, played on a compact map in Call of Duty: Warzone.
There, players land who bite the dust during a Warzone match. In the prison, they fight against other eliminated players for a second chance, i.e., a respawn. The winner can return to the ongoing match up to a certain point, while for the loser, it’s the end.
