A new map came into play through a live event for Call of Duty: Warzone – Verdansk ’84. However, it’s not that new at all. There are many similarities with the “modern” version that was previously in the game, but also some changes. MeinMMO presents you with 10 important adjustments.
It took over a year, but finally Call of Duty: Warzone received a comprehensive overhaul of the main map “Verdansk”. Many locations now look different – some are hardly recognizable, while others remain almost the same.
To give you an idea of what to expect on the “new” map Verdansk ’84, we will show you 10 important changes.
Overview Map
The overview map directly shows the locations where the map has changed the most after the destruction of Verdansk. You can see the names of the new locations, but also some familiar places. Completely new are the locations:
- Summit
- Salt Mine
- Array
- Factory
Color Design and House Modifications
Although there are many buildings that you already know from the earlier version, they do look different. The colors have changed a lot, and overall the map is now somewhat more colorful. However, not excessively so. Some houses have also been slightly remodeled. On the Military Base, the houses are exactly where they used to be. But the houses themselves are a bit different.
Storage Town is a good example of the color adjustments. Before the update, the garages/storage buildings there were white and had only colored doors. Now all the buildings there are yellow. This trend continues throughout the map – there are new colors and differences to the previous version everywhere.
Lighting of Many Interiors
Another important point is adjustments inside buildings. The lighting conditions have changed within many houses – and it seems to be for the better.
Take the hospital, for example. In the old Verdansk, the hospital was very dark inside, and fights were often a struggle for visibility. Now the hospital is well-lit, allowing for fair fights. Dark skins still have advantages in some places.
This applies to several buildings. Overall, the initial impression is that interiors are now better lit.
Stadium is Significantly Smaller
The stadium was part of the first major change to the old Verdansk. The football temple was long inaccessible, and only with the start of Season 5 of Modern Warfare did the roof and doors of the arena open.
Now the stadium has dropped a few leagues. Nothing is left of the modern first league stadium. Instead, Verdansk now kicks in a charming, small stadium in the heart of the city.
Bunker Facilities
At least at release, the bunkers are initially unspectacular. For a long time, they were guarantees for strong loot in the old Verdansk, and a trip to the underground facilities was often a worthwhile trip.
The bunkers are still in the game, but they are closed. So far, there are also no reports of whether there are new key cards or if the bunkers will contain story secrets or Easter eggs again, like the nuclear bunker 11 before the update.
Signal Station Replaces WHP Camp
While the TV station is a flashback from the old map, quite some changes have taken place a few meters north. Where the WHP camp used to be, there now stands a huge, walkable signal station.
The metal monster looms unmistakably over the entire map and invites vertical fights. It will be exciting to see if the structure proves to be a popular drop spot or if it should already be scrapped.
Downtown
The downtown area of Verdansk strongly resembles the earlier version. The general layout and the buildings have changed little.
However, an important change could significantly alter the dynamics in Downtown – the adjustments to the glass skyscraper. The building now has several areas on the roof and no longer a single, solid roof. This creates more opportunities for snipers, and the building is likely to become even more dangerous for visitors to the downtown area.
Quarry Becomes Salt Mine with Forest
When approaching the new salt mine, one might think: “Oh, everything is as usual”. But upon a second glance, one notices that there is now much more forest.
A good part of “Quarry” is gone, and instead of a pit, there is now a large forest area. The salt mine offers a few familiar buildings, but the area in the north towards the edge of the map is now more for nature guys with a sniper rifle.
Environment Around the Superstore
The Superstore itself evokes familiar feelings. The roof is a bit different, the interior brighter, and also somewhat remodeled. However, the environment has changed significantly.
East of the store, you will now find the location “Factory”. The area now connects the airport area with the hangars to the area around the Superstore. In the factory, airplanes are built.
Airport is No Longer Destroyed
The airport is no longer a complete wreck. Instead of a destroyed entrance hall, you now find a completely intact airport.
This means that the airport is less visible from the outside and offers better cover and more security than before the update. However, the tower remains a feast for snipers.
The Dam Area is Completely Different
Some of the biggest changes have occurred in the area around the dam – as it is completely gone. Instead, there is now a bridge, and in the area of the reservoir, you will now find a signal station reminiscent of the classic “Black Ops” map “Summit”.
The station is connected to the rest of the map via a cable car.
