Full metal jacket bullets increase the damage of your weapon in Call of Duty: Warzone – or do they? Some tests have shown that the bullets do not quite do what many players expect.
What are full metal jacket bullets? Full metal jacket bullets (engl. “FMJ” for “Full Metal Jacket”) are one of the attachments you can add to a weapon through the gunsmith feature. They belong in the “Extra” slot (“Perk”) and have the following description:
- Increases penetration and damage against equipment and killstreaks.
- Advantages: Penetration
- Disadvantages: none
Furthermore, according to the weapon stats display, they increase the damage of the respective weapon that you equip with full metal jacket bullets. However, this is misleading.
Full metal jacket bullets: Myths vs. Reality
This is what players suspected: Since full metal jacket bullets are supposed to increase a weapon’s damage, at least according to the display, many players suspected that they would get kills faster with them. After all, the TTK is shorter with higher damage.
Other players suspected that armored plates were considered “equipment.” Since the bullets do more damage to enemy equipment, they assumed that they would penetrate the plates better.
These two assumptions led many players to equip their best weapons and loadouts with the perk .
This is what the bullets actually do: In reality, neither of these assumptions is true. The damage you inflict on players in Warzone is identical with or without full metal jacket bullets. You need the same number of shots.
However, the extra does have one advantage that no other perk provides: You can penetrate certain surfaces. With full metal jacket bullets, you can hit opponents behind walls or trees – without a bug like in multiplayer.
The functionality of the bullets is well illustrated in the embedded YouTube video:
Should I use the bullets?
In general: No, full metal jacket bullets are not worth it. While you can kill or at least hit opponents behind certain cover, these situations are more the exception than the rule.
The main reason against them is that you have to sacrifice one of only five available slots for the bullets. This has already been a reason for many good players to prefer to go without scopes and applies to full metal jacket bullets as well.
If you want to play better in Battle Royale and hit opponents, full metal jacket bullets will not help you with that. Instead, you should warm up properly or do aim training to improve your aim in Warzone. This way, you train your muscle memory, making it easier for you to hit opponents’ heads and take them down faster. You will not need shots through walls anymore.
